kapex issues

Hello dear festool users. I finally bought myself a kapex and after waiting a month I finally received it. I have to be honest I am very disappointed in it. First issue I notices immediately is that there were black grease marks all over the saw and the green control levers it seemed like a car mechanic was building it so after cleaning it I continued my observations. Here's where it goes down hill fast every time I bevel the saw to the right it grinds leaving marking on the bevel back plate no where near smooth what so ever metal shavings on the read out. The second issue was with a laser left one stopped short while the right side one goes all the way back, now I didn't even make a single cut on this machine so there is no dust or anything what so ever.  Third and final thing the the clear read out that reads the table was broken off and was just sitting in the saw. This is ridiculous $1400 saw a month long wait, and this is what I get...

If you are not happy, take advantage of the 30 day return policy, contact your dealer.

Nothing should arrive broken though, I would contact your dealer and/or Festool, that is if you decide to keep the saw.

I'm sorry to hear this, and I would certainly be upset too! I've had very good quality and what not in all I have rec'd from Festool. Although the MFT's need to be better packed for shipping.

I'd contact your dealer and ask them to swap out. I know it's a PITA, but who knows...maybe something happened in transport.

I know when I got my Kapex, I couldn't figure out why the saw wouldn't rotate for a simple miter...as I was depressing the lock button...I missed that there was another lock there as well. Luckily I didn't force it.

Regarding the comment regard to making a bevel and having grinding sound and metal shavings...are you saying the blade bit the back fence...if so...know you have to move those out on certain bevels. Perhaps even the blade was knocked out of it's arbor (if that can happen)...as the lasers shine down the side...if your missing part of the beam something is blocking it...the blade perhaps.

Thanks Shaun, I spoke with the dealer this morning festool called me as well,  they are going to send me new saw. I overall love the tools this company makes minus the price and own few that I enjoy working with,  so hopefully my luck improves.  However I do have a question how did you guys get used to it not having a bevel detent on 33.9?  Seems odd to me.

Based on your displeasure with the way the Kapex was delivered and having to return it, have you considered instead getting a Bosch 12" GCM12GDL, which does have the 33.9 angle and extra cutting capacity plus a second, smaller non-sliding saw for smaller trim work?

For me the Kapex was too expensive for a saw that couldn't do everything I needed. So for less cost than the Kapex I bought the Bosch 12" Glide Axial, that whilst admittedly very big and heavy, has class leading capacities and a 10" that weighs nearly 20 pounds less than the Kapex for ease of portability.

For me the Kapex 120 was neither a lightweight portable saw, nor did it have the cutting capacity to make it the one mitre saw I needed.

How good was the supplied blade on the Bosch?

It would say it's "good enough" it's made by Freud. It cuts very cleanly but does so at a slightly slower speed than more expensive blades in the Freud range. So I would say whilst Freud do make it, as a supplied/bundled blade, it might not be their very best effort.

It was certainly good enough that I used it until it needed sharpening, but instead of getting it sharpened I bought one of Freud's top of the line blades (forget exactly which model) and it was a fair bit quicker but just as good a quality of cut.
