I did not want to potentially threadjack Tim's post regarding an oil leak, I don't seem to have that problem, but my right laser appears to be out. Is there a way to clean it? I notice that there is a small clear plastic slider at the top of the guard (attached to the saw body above where the guard retracts into  the housing) does this have something to do with it?

I have to say that I love the saw, it has completely changed how I work. I'm a trim carpenter and some of my work involves hundreds of small pieces, with my old saw I would have to spend a lot of time looking for the pieces that had shot out the back and hit the wall.

The saw appears to be completely normal, I just don't see any light from the right laser. Nothing is seen on the right looking up from below the guard, I would assume that means it is just not really out of adjustment.

Yes, you can remove the clear plastic cover for cleaning, and it is held in place by clips on the cover and a cross-point screw on the right-hand side of the saw. You need to partially remove the screw before you can can unclip and slide the plastic cover off.

The prodecure is shown on page 28 of Rick Christopherson's Kapex Supplemental Manual, and I have done it myself.

However, from what you describe, it sounds as though there's a fault with the sealed laser unit or the power supply to it, and I think that it's very unlikely that anything can be done without disassembling the main body of the saw.

In this case, I recommend that you contact Festool and hand it in for checking and probably repair. Sorry!

Update-
Well I did just what Forrest recommended, it took all of two minutes, cleaned the plastic lens cover and problem solved...I had no idea the cover was removable for cleaning, guess I should have actually read the manual.

Thanks for the help,
Domenic
