i haven't used my kapex in a while, several months and when i got it out today the blade trough was full of oil then realize oil streaming down the blade. I removed the blade to find that the crankcase is leaking.  i can't believe this.  first the scraping miter scale and now all the oil leaking out!  it's got great features but man for what we pay for this stuff its driving me crazy!!

The fastest and most effective way to get your Kapex fixed is to phone Festool USA Service Department

(800) 554-8741

After talking to you, I am sure they will send you a Kapex return shipping container and the paperwork for the transportation and repairs.

Contact by phone seems to work faster than sending Service an e-mail.

Your Kapex has an unusual problem.

I own several Kapex, some of which have been in use 5-6 days a week since they were sold in the USA without more than routine maitenance, yet some Kapex do go bad.

Best of luck, Carroll

That explains a lot.  When not in use my Kapex is parked in the corner of my shop, usually on a rubber floor mat.  Some months back I took the saw out and there was an oil stain on the mat, which I could not figure out it's origin.  Now I know.  It's a small amount and has not happened again.  Thanks for solving the mystery.

I've got an old Skil 1/2" d-handled drill that was my Grandfathers that leaks oil.

Of course it was made in 1950 and didn't cost $1300++!

I've heard about a lot of things going wrong with miter saws, never heard of one leaking oil...

Hi Victor,

This has come up at least once before as a topic. And very good results were reported by those having contacted Festool Service about the problem.  That would be my suggestion.

Hats off to Festool!  I didn't even get a chance to get a hold of service, they contacted me! Shane saw the post,  emailed and copied Lester who then quickly followed up with a phone call to work out the details of getting it into service with a shipping box festool is sending out to pack it up and send it in.

That's points you know, the community,  the support. Try that with the Makita or DeWalt owners group, Fuhgheddaboutit!

Thanks Shane for looking out for us.

Glad to help out.  [wink] Lester and the guys in service are great and will take care of you.

Hello,

Curious as to what happened with your Kapex issue. I've had mine for about a month and its leaking all over my van. Initially I was so happy with it that I sold my Dewalt. Now I'm in the thick of a finish carpentry job and may need to buy another.

Get in contact with Festool USA Service tomorrow at the phone number on your saw.  Don't wait for Shane to get in touch with you.  He's working the JLC show and isn't going to be on the forum as much as usual.
