Kapex Scraping Noise

I was in at the Lee Valley store in Vancouver to pick up dowels and as I walked by the Festool display a feller was looking over the Kapex. I slowed up and told him how good of a tool it is. He asked me how the table moved, so I quickly showed him how and lo and behold there was a scraping sound coming out of it as I moved it.  :-[ [embarassed]I thought that this problem had been resolved. I am on my second Kapex and mine have never scrapped. Has anybody else run across this problem lately?

Only in the very beginning when I was too stupid to realize how the handle worked! Since that day, mine's been perfect.

Steve,

The problem with the scraping only existed in the very first batch of Kapex units that were received in the US in 2008. The problem was quickly identified and resolved. It has not been a problem since. I suspect, like happened to Kev and several other forum members, that the handle was locked. That will definitely make a scraping noise since the handle clamps down on the plate.

I bought my kapex December of 09 and its always been making that scraping noise, my indexing plate is off as it will lock exactly on 45 ° to the right yet it locks at about 44.75°to the left, it also makes a loud scraping noise while setting the bevel at the last 4° from 43° to 47°. Out of all the kapexes I have seen at dealers and other personal units they are all a little stiff, my favorite locking mechanism is on the dealt saws, the handle glides super smoothly and locks tight exactly where you want it.  I have also had a problem with my fences ceasing up to a point where i had to use a Mallory to get them off and sand them down, my power cord is already sheared its cover in two places around the housing where its locked downtown the head... I use my kapex every day and still running good but there is so many annoying little problems that I never had in my cheapo dewalts which also ran for years with no problems.

Lucas, Yup same here on the scraping issue. Purchased mine about 1 year ago, use it daily and about the second month, the scrap became so bad, you could not move the saw. Heck I even asked the dealer I bought from if the issue was resolved. I guess I got one of the bad ones.

I phone Festool service and had the new plate in a few days, installed, problem still there. Called back and was told to use new spring but old plate, still scraped but not as much.

Then I decided to use some HDPE on the underside of the plate to give it a bit more room. Now it does scrap, but just a bit...

Guys, if your Kapex isn't working to your full and complete satisfaction, we have a three year warranty. Please take advantage of it. We even pay shipping both directions the first year of warranty.
