Hi All,

I'm wondering if I should keep the boxes for my Kapex and Mini that I just purchased. I don't intend on selling them or sending them in for service. What have you guys done?

Thanks.

I never intend on sending things in for service but you might. I kept my kapex box for that reason.

I have kept many of my Festool boxes, including the Kapex, in an overhead storage area I have at work. I say if you have the room, keep the boxes.

I think that if you did need to send the Kapex in for service and did not have the box, Festool can provide the empty box. Not sure if there is a charge for that--

I throw them away.
I haven't got room to store empty boxes.

Yeah I recycled my Midi Box and the box my MFT/3 came in. No room in my little wood shop :(

Great question Brian! I just bought a CT36AC and debated about holding on to the box. On the one hand, it's nice to have it in the event I need to send it in for service. On the other hand, if I kept all of the boxes for my larger Festool items (Kapex, CT-36AC, CT-26, CT-MIDI, CMS-OF, etc...), I wouldn't have any space to work or park my van!

For myself, I recycle the packaging. The way I figure it, I generally haven't needed to send my tools in for service until they're 4+ years old. By then, even if I had kept the boxes they would have likely been damaged by water or simply taken up way too much room relative to their value. For your Kapex, I believe the bill for Festool to send you the complete packing kit is insignificant, something like $40. PLUS, Festool sends you a sheet detailing exactly HOW they want you to pack it, which is much better than trying to remember how it fit in there years after the fact. For instance, there is a special "packing" position for the blade/motor housing that I wouldn't have figured out if it weren't for the packing instructions they sent me.

Unless you have acres of cubic space to store empty boxes, I suggest you recycle the boxes, and in the unlikely event you need to send something in for service, simply call Festool and they'll send you the appropriate packaging materials and instructions. Good luck out there!

Assuming the reason for storing boxes is for possible service/repair...

There would never be a reason to have to ship an MFT for service that I can think of.

The tools that come in Systainers can be shipped in the Systainer, but I would actually ship them in a cardboard box to lessen the odds of the Systainer being damaged in transit.

For the Kapex, if you do not have the box, the service team can dispatch a box for shipping if necessary.

If you're shipping a CT for repair, we don't need the "tub" part of it, just the head unit. Which can also be shipped in any cardboard box. Shipping the tub also increases the possibility of damage and may increase shipping cost due to the additional size/weight.

Hope that helps. The only box I have personally saved is my Kapex box.

Thank you all. My recycling goes out tonight, so everything is getting tossed. Thanks for all the input!

Off topic, but nice pic. I used to play allot a few years ago. I had a SL8R and I kicked myself when I sold it.
