Well I had couple days not long ago so I was able to start my kitchen!  I only have these pictures so far but I have done a little more than just that but I didnt have my camera on the second day!

I am building my Kitchen my self so to make it easy I decided to use legs and MDF to make a solid base so I can easily move and arrange how I want the kitchen!

I think this method is easier than having separate units but is also better than having a solid base fixed to the floor because they are more difficult to level up and take longer.  I just simply ripped down some MDF cut it to length and fixed the legs and levelled it all up.

them worktops are a little low, and i think it is lacking on storage space really  i score a D- for this

Hi JMB. Here's an alternative suggestion for those solid base units should you want to use them.

i am pretty sure the op is using "levellers" also.
i have used them also.
2 pieces of plastic, one screws inside the other, which in turn gives you the adjustable height.

Good to see someone thinking outside the box, looking forward to the rest of the pics, how are you making the carcases ie( dominoes, biscuits and hard backs etc)

It looks like they are made for the "laid back" chef.

Dean,

I think a D- is kind of low.  JMB is showing some ingenuity here as these adjustable height countertops double as added sleeping quarters for guests and hung over partygoers.

I have already made a few and I made them using dominos.

Using melamine for the units and 6mm MDF backs coated White on one side.  I'll have reenforcing bars made with left over ade with let over melamine on the back to strengthen the back.

Doors will be MDF with some fancy designed router into them not made up my mind yet.  Might send them off for being sprayed painted or paint them my self give it a cottage look!

Either way units are white because the end panels and doors will be a cream colour.

I'll post more pics as I work on it but at the moment I'm working on money paying jobs.

Yup, stolen from you and not ashamed to admit it. I was thinking of posting some of your group hunting pictures, but I haven't quite decided in which subject category they'd be appropriate. ;D

Upscale, I really like the base you posted. Looks solid and versatile. I'm going to use that base on some project in the future. Funny comment about the low counters!
Thanks.

What Brand are the legs? How tall are they at Min?

Cheers,
Steve

I personally like the top of the MFT. I know that there are some going half out of their mind seeing all them cuts!

Personally,.... I love it!

Swingman, Upscale    I like your bases they look solid!    but more time has gone into them bases than mine!  I simply cut the MDF to size and then drilles holes where I wanted the legs for like catching the plinth(kick board)  in the corners and then set all the legs at the height I want  then place it and adjust accordingly.

Your base design I must admit would be quicker to set up to get level as you only have 4 legs so its a lot quicker I suppose than my millions of legs but like I said you would had spend more time in making the base originally.  Also if you had notched to cut out like you see in my picture its creates more work with your design.  BUT I will keep your design in mind as I can see it coming in some time in the future for some furniture I might make!

How I levelled mine  I had the two at the ends slightly longer and then 2 in the middle back and front where my 6ft level would reach then level them and then just adjust the ones in the middle till they hit the floor and if needed lift the MDF up till it hits the level taking the sag out of it.
