This is a gift for my sister this year.  It is the first time I have ever made a gift, and had it completed on time for Christmas!

The design is based off of a Schmidt brothers knife block I saw, made with some scraps of rift cut white oak and acrylic.

The rare earth magnets embedded into the wood keep the knives from moving around if the bolster isn't flat.

Thanks for all the kind words.

Turns out she didn't like it, and wouldn't use it (an extremely honest family)

I guess the downside of making a gift is that you can't return it...    ::)

until next year I guess...

Ouch!

I agree with everyone else that it is a cool project and executed well.  I am going to "borrow" some of your ideas so that I can get rid of the massive knife block sitting on my counter. I am thinking about going wall mounted.

How about hooking up with this guy?  I think his knives would look great in that rack!  Brice warning, the video isn't G rated (I think it was posted here before but can't remember)

Jay,

I think you forgot to link the video?

Vin,

A lot of the cutting blocks you normally see do not give you the ability to tell which knife you have until you pull it out of the block.  Not so with yours.  Like the others have said, love the clean design and the craftsmanship.

No pun intended, but that is a sharp design.  Very clean and would go create in a loft of modern decor. Well done!
