Just bought a Kreg shelf pin jig thinking I could use any 5mm spur drill but it turns out they are special stepped drill bits.

Found them on Amazon stateside anyone know what a couple of drill bits would cost to send to the UK ? I tried running it through the Amazon system but got as far as credit card input without seeing the delivery cost so didn't continue.

Might have to get a helpful member to buy me a couple and ship them

I ordered some plug cutters from America and the customs bill was more than the bits

These would be under customs charges they are only $6 each. I'm sure charges start at $20

Dont forget they charge it on the total thats the goods and the postal cost [scared]

Tried tom at intelligent and it's a no go and he reckons no dealers will have spares. Don't know why people sell tools but not the spares, it's pretty obvious the drills will eventually go blunt.

Workshop heaven?? Just bought mine from there, think they do spares

it looks as if you got the KMA3200 which is the 1/4" version instead of the KMA3220 which is the 5mm jig so you have the choice of either size but need the special bits. I've just ordered the jig from amazon.com and it was "AmazonGlobal Expedited Shipping-Shipping & Handling: JPY 1,254" about $12 or £8 so your bits would be that or less.

Hi Jerome

So do they do a jig with 5mm holes ? I thought they had just made one jig and to save money they've made stepped drill bits down to 5mm.

EDIT: no I do have the 3220 EUR I think I'm right about the above , they just modified the drills rather than make separate jigs. Annoying as I bought it thinking I could just use any 5mm brad point drill.

I will be in London at the end of November. I could bring them with me and post them to you when I arrive. Let me know.

I saw someone post that he used the bits from the LR32 in his jig and they were a perfect fit. I'll find out when mine arrives in a week or 2.

EDIT the information is here http://festoolownersgroup.com/festool-tools-accessories/a-unexpected-but-pleasant-surprise/

I was thinking that too Jerome. If the router cutter shank is 1/4" it could work. Probably best to use the Kreg bits though.

EDIT just had a look at my wealden 5mm router dowel drill I use in the router for pin holes. The blade part is 35mm long so it would probably cut the hole before the 1/4" shank centred in the Kreg jig hole.

Managed to get 1 spare thanks to scholar , a member here who was in Boston and pm'd me. He could only get 1 from woodcraft but that will do me fine.

Thanks to all the other kind members too , who offered to help.

Just got this jig from DM tools - they only list the one 3200 (the main dealers all do) - it comes with 5mm stepped drill bit. And it is 3200 on the box.

Is there actually another jig which comes with a 5mm holes and a standard 5mm bit? Would be preferable. Some sites list a 3220 - but as far as I can tell this is what I have?? Ie 3220 just means it comes with a 5mm stepped drill bit - and in fact the box still has a 3200 label.

Very confusing!

Thank you.

Yeah that's the same jig I have. As they're made for the American market and they probably don't sell many here it looks like they were lazy and just made stepped bits rather than make an actual 5mm jig.

If you need help getting replacement bits shipped to the EU, let me know. I have helped a few FOGGER's get OAINA items.

Thank you for confirming - save me ordering another one listed as 3220 - that turns out to be the exact same thing!

And thank you Wow - very generous offer!
