Hi...I love my Kreg Jig but I wanted to make hole drilling faster. I wasn't impressed with the foreman (takes up too much space). I saw this video from the Wooden Tool Man and decided to build it:
I didn't want to attach it to a cabinet so I built it free standing. I then saw all the space underneath and decided that this was where I could store all of my Kreg Accessories, including the clamps. (yeah). The clamps are really to add mass to the bottom to avoid the unit from tipping over, but it solved my clamp storage issue too.
This first one was a prototype and I want to build a nicer one. However, there's one problem that I really want to fix in the new one...the foot pedal It sticks out and keeps getting in the way. It's got a bolt in the base as a pivot point so that it will move up and down. I want it to "disappear" when I'm not using the machine.
I was thinking that I could hinge it so that it could flip up when not in use, but the wood is only 3/4" and I wasn't sure about whether a hinge that small would work. I then thought that I could fatten up the part that is after the verticals, but I want to minimize the amount sticking out in the front.
Maybe a removable cotter pin in the bottom part so that I could quickly undo it and fold the foot up? Any other ideas???
I'm also thinking that the vertical pull down mechanism may not be made out of wood...maybe perforated metal strip?

PS...after destroying several hand clamps, I resorted to using 4 springs to make the thing pop up... I give him tons of credit for figuring out how to reuse the spring on the handclamp, but man, I couldn't find the one he used.
