Kreg Pocket hole system and Festool Vacs...

Hey guys,

I recently purchased the Kreg K3 pocket hole system...  I am working with Ipe and the dust is particularly nasty...  Included with the Kreg system, there is a dust extractor shroud...  I wanted to be able to connect the Festool vacuum to that shroud...  Does anyone know of an adapter that would allow for connection to the Vacuum?  I believe the shroud is 1 1/4" ID or about 1.4" OD...

Matt,

i use the Kreg jig myself, I've used several adapters but the one i find most usefull is a hose made by (or at least sold as) Porter Cable. One end fits the CT connector and the other fits the Kreg, most PC tools and many others, I've found it at several PC dealers for about $30 i think.

McFeeleys has the adaptor to fit the Kreg jig and the festool standard hose.  Works great.  Got it after a project that I wished I had it for.

I use a small plastic cutting sheet my wifes let me have, about 9x7.  I roll it up tight and stick it in the Festool hose and the Kreg dust shroud.  It unrolls to fill the gap in each and works like a charm, doesn't fall out when bumped.

I use a 1 1/4" PVC elbow. I used a barrel sander to increase the inside diameter on one leg of the elbow to fit on the Kreg jig and it works great.

I took my Kreg set up and Festool 27 hose to an auto parts store and got a radiator hose and a hose clamp to connect the hose to the Kreg vacuum connector.  The Festool vac hose connects to the other end.  Works good.

Just another option and not too expensive.

Exactly!!  Here's mine in use.

I used a drum sander mounted on my drill to slightly increase the diameter on the end which is attached to the Kreg jig.  The curved shape of the adapter helps to reduce the strain from the hose on the Kreg dust shroud.

I took the easy way out. I use a short piece of orilla tape to hold the hose on. It works fine, but I will use an adapter someday. The dust hood is geat add for the Kreg. With the mini it takes all the dust from drilling the pocket holes.

Hey guys,

Thanks for all the responses...  I think I am going to try one of those "stepped-reducer" pieces to fix the problem...  I was using gorilla tape for a while...  What I found is that after letting the tape sit on the hose end for a few days, it left a lot of residual glue on the hose end after peeling off the tape...

I found this at HD. Works perfectly with a nice snug slip fit. No tape required.

I'll second Peter Halle's suggestion to get the adapter from McFeelys.
Neat, simple, no trimming needed, and not too expensive.  I just got one.

Old thread, I know but do you have a link for that adapter? looked on the site but couldn't find it.

When I worked last with Ipe, I took a long shower after knocking off for the day. That dust is very bad stuff.

I don't think they would carry it anymore, but another option is looking for the 3D printed part on shapeways.  It's not inexpensive though.  Fein also sells a stepped hose adapter that should allow you to connect the festool fitting to the kreg.

Thanks Peter.  I'll look at both.  Seems like this would be a more readily available part given the popularity of both brands, yes? like a stock item maybe?

Thanks again

This is an old thread.  These days there is the Bosch VAC003 adapter for less than $5 from Amazon.  Perfect fit in the K5, but I think it shares the 1 1/4" size with the K3.
