Lamello Invis Mx Starter Kit

Has any one used this LAmello jointing kit yet?  I like the look of it  very expensive though. I have got some use for it. The company I work for does alot of work for JCB personal houses.  They like a lot of secret doors cub boards and panels. Something like that could make life easier maybe.

Axminster in Bobbing have a sample on the counter, I was chatting to the chap there and he had been sent to Switzerland by APTC for training.
(He is also going on a Festool course this month ;D)

It is an impressive bit of kit but you'd need to have a good run of work for it to pay it's way. It's a step away from Dr Who's sonic screwdriver though [big grin]

That is a neat system.  I don't think that it is available here in the States.  There is something similar offered for joining railing systems that would seem to be a modification or a licensing deal.  I think Tommy Silva used this on This Old House.

Correction:  The Invis system is available in the US under the Invis name.  The cost for the connectors is about 5 dollars US each.

Hi guys sorry to revive an old thread,

Has anyone used the invis system? recommendations?

i have a cabinet i want to build for my own home that i want to be able to "flat pack" so we can take it with us when we sell up. The cabinet will be solid oak and 3000mm long 300mm deep and 2400mm high so i dont want to carry it to far assembled.

i looked at the invis system a few years ago, it was alot more expensive then, its now down to a slighty less eye watering £247 for the starter kit at axminster

I've got one and it is good. A couple of things to think about.

1. positioning of the dowels is critical - no room for error.

2. Some people recommend the Rasto jig for aligning the dowel holes but that is another eye watering £330 so only worth buying if you are going to use it a lot.

3. The dowels are expensive so should only be used (IMHO) if there is no alternative - and in many cases there are.

4. Keep a good note (photos) of where the fixings are so that if you ever need to dismantle it you will be able to find them again.

I've used one recently.

I found that it didn't work as well as the video shows. I was using it to join 2" thick maple handrails. I'm not sure if
the density of the maple affected the magnets or if it was because it was quite an old, very well used kit. But i couldn't
get the 2 pieces to pull together as easily as the video shows.

It really took some moving and twisting to get them to pull together and even more to get them apart again.
I had the rasto jig to drill the holes too. It kept it aligned really well. In fact, the Rasto jig is worth every penny. the joints
lined up absolutely perfectly.

I'd recommend the Lamello Zeta P2 system of you want a knock down cabinet. Those joints are solid. They pull really tight and have minimal visibilty when installed (a very small hole for accessing the cam)

I'd also recommend the zeta. It couldn't do a handrail though and the Invis really is invis, but I have only ever used mine once. I found knocking the parts down after a real pain. I know that the ones available now are new and improved over mine though.
