Here's a laptop stand I'm making out if birch ply that has a polymer coating on it. I made a very quick router table for my OF 1010 which is essential for this project. Ill be gluing all the parts together with PU glue and then pinning each part together.

So far I have used my mini Hoover, psb 300 jigsaw, OF 1010, TS 55 R and finally my mini cleaning set. The only none festool I used has been my Panasonic drill and will be using my dewalt pinner in the end

Geeze, I wish my wife would let me set up my router on the dining room table...  [poke]

RMW

Lol Richard I wish she would as well. I took inside after using it outside. It makes a hell of a mess when running the flush trimming bit around the template.

That is a sure fire way to kill your router, your blocking the air exhaust/intake on the top having it on the table with the vents all in the dust like that.

lol

Yeah sanding does take a while with layered birch hard stuff.

Belt sander and Rotex 90 with the really soft sponge pads  make it ALOT quicker!

I sometimes make stuff layers to get the mould I want when I dont have a cutter big enough to achieve it.

Nice laptop stand by the way!

and love your Festool CMS table  [tongue]

JMB

JMB I wish I had a rotex. Ya my CMS is class ain't it? Cost me a fortune to buy  ;D lol It's unreal hard stuff alright. Sanding the inside was torture to do by hand. My sander wouldn't fit in it and I don't have a bobbin sander.  [crying] I used a plastic wheel with a bolt through it and double sided tape and stuck sandpaper to it and used my drill to sand the inside of it. It's not perfect tho

very nice john
sanding the inside of things like that is always a pain.
the only way i can think is to sand the first layer perfectly and then attach  the next layer and use a spiral flush trimming bit to finish it back the same as the previous one. hopefully it would only be hand sanding then after that

Ya it was torture sanding the inside of it Alan. If I got enough of orders for it I would buy a bobbin sander and have it done in less than an hour. Others than that I have no real need for one

The design is very cool and exotic. I really like the artistic aspects.

How is it ergonomically? It looks like it would be really well suited to sitting on the couch working and watching the news but not so well suited sitting at a desk and reaching up.

Have you tried it out in various positions?

It seems appealing to me because I often sit on the couch evenings in shorts and use my laptop. The exhaust gets hot on the legs. Your piece would prevent that burning and look good! Currently, I use magazines for insulation.

Ya it's biggest use would be for sitting on the couch and on a chair etc. The middle part can also hold a keyboard and a mouse so you can use it at the table as well. Your wrists are flat when using it and not raised up causing user fatigue.

Really cool design!
I have need for such a stand when I use dual monitors, i.e. the built in lap top monitor + one more + external keyboard and mouse. I think I'm going to steel some of the design if you don't mind. While in "stationary" mode the lap top monitor needs to be elevated to a comfortable eye level and in level with the external monitor.
