About a week ago I ordered a large railbag from a UK dealer and it came in the mail today.  The fastest shipping I've ever seen.  I was expecting it late next week, so when I got home today and saw that it was here I was really excited.  I grabbed my utility knife to open the plastic (can you see where this is going?)  and before I realized what I had done I had cut through the first layer of material on about half of the upper portion of the bag.  It was wrapped in plastic and white tape so much so that there was no way to tell if the bag was boxed or not.  I obviously just assumed it was boxed.  My heart just sank when I realized what had happened.  I've spent the last hour trying to sew the cut portion together again, getting more upset with every stitch [mad]

[sad] I feel for you dude. I would cry if that happened to me.  [crying]

strongs to you

Welcome to my world , Russell.

There's many a time when I'm sure that the gremlins have substituted a bowl of "dumb-*ss" for my cherioes in the morning.  I'm sure that it was one of those forehead smacking  "duh" moments; hope you let go of the knife first!!!

Sorry but cant help but laugh cus it is funny in a way.  but I do feel for ya because I know how I would feel I would want to burn it and get a new one just because I hate having something damaged befor I even worn it in

Oh that's nasty, [sad] best thing you can do with that is sew it up and slap it straight on ebay and buy your self a new one as it will eat you up everytime you look at it..

Sorry to hear about your misfortune. [sad] If the sewing doesn't work out you might want to try one of those iron on patches.

Isn't that the truth.  I'll cringe everytime I see it.  There's no way I can justify getting another one though.  The cost (between purchasing two bags and selling one at a fraction of the price) would make that second bag way too much.

I couldn't have said it better myself.  I guess a lot of us here are neat freaks when it comes to that stuff.  It would be completely different if I had been using this for a month and accidently ripped it.

Russell,

Sorry about your situation

Take it to someone who does alterations and have them sew it up.

Either use matching thread or Festool green thread.  Perhaps a zipper to nowhere.

Five years from now you will laugh at the situation.

Peter

Bummer Russell,

That really stinks.  Even better than Peter's suggestion is go to someone that does canvas work such as boat camper tops or awnings, they have the heavy duty sewing machines that easily handle heavy fabrics.

I just bought a new Kapex I accidentally  cut through the handle with my Stanley knife  can the fund give me a new one? Heee Heee

People would take to piss left right and centre making out they done something.

People properly say they cut through the bag like rnt80 dit take a photos photo edit it so its got a rip on it but it really aint.

Well, in a way we do, don't we? We express our pity for his misfortune and the warm feeling of camaradery is certainly priceless, isn't it ?
Though I doubt that Russell ( being from Arizona ) really needs a "warm feeling"... [huh]

Anyhow: D*mn'd Russell, that stinks. For what it's worth: I feel for you.
I like the "zipper to nowhere" ( using limegreen stitching ) suggestion. It'll make your bag unique in a very personal way, and most probably in a couple of years you'll like the bag better for it.
You can even have the person making the repair adding a pocket behind the zipper, and you could use this place to store useful items like a carpenters pencil, notepad, calculator, whatever.

Regards,

Job

I feel for you too mate. What I want to know is how you got a UK dealer to send a festool item Internationally. I tried to get some accessories from the UK recently as our dollar has been going pretty good but all I got was replies that stated that they were unable to due to international festool agreements. Not happy as these accessories could have arrived at my door for up to 40% less than Aussie retailers.

I feel your pain!  I had just bought my Kapex when doing a test cut had a small piece fly up and hit the rubber boot behind the blade and break the littly plastic tab that holds the boot on.  I was pissed, but I guess stuff happens.  The sad part is it's molded one solid piece, so replacing it would not be cheap!
