hi there.
i just bought a dewalt 89 k laser level. the type that puts a level line all around a room. it comes with a bracket that you mount the laser onto with magnets. it works ok. it does its job . the problem i have is that i have been using it for the last week (putting up ceiling joists etc) i was using it in some aqward (to do normally) spaces, i had to move the level a few times to get around walls and down halls.
the problem came when i needed to level it back up to the same point as before. i could eye ball it if i wasnt moving the level again.
i was thinking of some kind of metal(magnetic) plate that had a section that i could screw up and down to level it.

i was thinking of making it but if there was something comercially availible that would be better.

any ideas

thanks alan

Have a look at the Bosch WM1 mount. I would guess that it's compatible with your DeWalt and has the height adjustment you're after.

You don't need anything that fancy.

When the laser level is at position 1, no matter what height, mark a spot on the wall that your Position 2 placement will overlap.

Now once your laser level is at Position 2, measure the exact height difference, and mark a scrap of wood with both marks. This is your difference in height.

Keep this small "story pole" in your short pocket, and you can transfer the precise height difference of laser line Position 1 anywhere along the Position 2 laser line.

Repeat as necessary for all Positions.

That's how I hang dropped ceilings.

I set up the laser about 2 inches below my desired height of the track, and have a 3/4" x 3/4" x 4" block of wood with a pencil line at the 2" mark.

My pencil line is aligned with the laser line, and the top of the block is what my track rests on when I fasten/hang it.

Make sure to put an "UP" arrow on your "pocket story stick" in order to be precise.

Hope that helps.

Bosch B1 bracket is a nice bracket!

I made a video a while ago when I bought my Leica laser level!  Its a good laser level but the bracket which came with it is the WORST ever bracket I have come accross and I thought the dewalt bracket wasn't very good but the leica bracket made the dewalt look brilliant!

I bought the Bosch one and loved it its solid the magnet is very strong and the adjustment is 70mm I think.

thanks jmb.
the dewalt bracket is ok. the laser will magnetise good but i dread that it will fall off if i hit it. there is a bolt location that i use but you cant slide it up and down with it bolted .
i am thinking of a small drawer slide  with the dewalt mount on it and some kind of locking knob. screw the drawer slide to the wall ,pop on the laser and adjust the laser to suite

Well the Bosh bracket can  be screwed also and still allow the 70mm adjustment.  Like in the video it has Magnets and can be adjusted still also it has legs which fold out so you can place it on a flat surface and can still be adjusted up and down.

A good all round bracket.
