Big long truck arrived at my house just after noon today.  [tongue]   "Something Awesome this way comes" (all 800 pounds of it!).... [big grin]

One more addition to my shop renewal with what I'm calling "Lifelong Tools".

Monday brings the "Mustard Monster" as well. (Powermatic 3520B Lathe).  [thumbs up] That'll do it for this USA trip. Off to Germany for Xmas and New Years with the LOML and son on the 16th, and then... ugh... back to Nigeria till the end of February.

A3-41 sitting on the pallet getting looked at closely!
[attachimg=#1]

Ready for business and set for Jointing.
[attachimg=#2]

Open and ready for planing.
[attachimg=#3]

Silent Partner helical cutter. Awesome, but pricey!
[attachimg=#4]

Now, if I only already had 220V outlets in my shop....  [crying]

What was your DC plan for it? .. and the bandsaws & table saw, etc.

DC? We don't need no steenking DC! [big grin]

Actually, I have a JDS 3HP Cyclone (2300 CFM) on order. It was supposed to have been delivered at the end of November, but the ship was delayed. It's coming to the house just after I leave for Germany, so my father in law will take delivery. (Parents in-law are going to stay in my house in Florida for the winter. They are from upstate New York, and have had enough snow and cold to last a lifetime. They're looking for a house here)

In addition to the Cyclone, it will also arrive with a JDS AirTech Air Filtration System.

I'm not expecting to have my shop fully up and running until late spring when my wife is transferred back to the USA. She is being stationed in Georgia as a Squadron Commander, so we had our three-year Germany tour cut short by a year.  That kinda sucks, because I had a equipment plan for purchases in Germany spread over the next 16 months. It's now crunched to less than six and includes a Festool ASA 5000 Boom System that I intend to power my big machines from, rather than having 220V outlets all over the shop.  Also a High-Z S1000-T CNC Machine from German Company CNC-Step.  Bunch of non-powered German tools are also on my list. $$$$ Yikes! [crying]

I need to have all the items at our house in Germany before we move. That way the military will ship all to the USA for free. We have a weight allowance of 18,500 lbs, so trying to maximize.

Cheers,

Frank

You can always back fill your weight allowance with a couple of Porches  [wink]

By the way, if you do indeed get the ASM5000 Boom arm, hit Rick Christopherson up for advice.  He has one installed in his shop and had to really pay attention to the mounting requirements.  If I remember the thread I will send you a link or post it in this thread.

Nah...they'd look like Ford Pintos next to my Lambourghini and Mazerrati's. [big grin]

Congrats, your shop is really becoming a woodworker's paradise. Good for you. I hope to get your full take on the Hammer and the Laguna band saw. I already saw Paul Marcel's review of his Laguna.  Looking to learn more about the Hammer, though. Did you purchase it from Felder? Thanks.

So your going to need to set all of this equipment up, learn to use it, learn to turn, and teach yourself CAD? Sounds like you'll be quite busy.

It's my retirement plan.  Buying now while we have the income to splurge. Prices will only go up, and down the road it will become increasingly more difficult to justify expensive purchases as income goes down.

My plan is "Lifelong" tools. Buying the products now that I don't ever expect to want to upgrade...and at 2013/2014 prices.  This Hammer Jointer/Planer with the Silent Partner cutter set me back over $7000.00, but well worth it because I don't EVER expect to have to upgrade it.  The same holds for the Powermatic 3520B lathe coming on Monday, and the Laguna Italian LT20 and Laguna 14X14SUV Bandsaws I've purchased recently.  I plan to upgrade my SawStop PCS table saw to the full-size Industrial model later this year. Additionally, I plan for a Jet 22-44 Oscillating Drum Sander, and a Laguna 6" Belt sander.  I bought a Delta 18-900L Floor Drill Press recently as well. Ordered a Laguna Revo mini-lathe for fun. Finally, I plan to increase my Festool holdings dramatically over the next 6-12 months. I already have ETS125, RO 150/3, LS-130, the Festool Vacu-clamp system from Europe, CXS drill, Carvex PSC420 cordless, Centrotec Installer Kit (Europe), Imperial Forstner bit set, Centrotec ratchet set, Festool  10-bit router set, multiple NAINA items, Festool Stabila levels, CT36 Dust Extractor, Syscarts, Sortainers, and more.  Just beginning! [scared]

CNC is the wave of the future, and I'll buy what I think will last me for my purposes as soon as possible. Additionally, I will spend nearly $8000 on a new 3D printer from the Netherlands in order to prototype, and/or fabricate various tools and adapters that are not readily available online. (eg.. imperial to metric adapters for DC outlets). You never know.... I might invent the improved mouse trap and make millions! [smile]

While some may think this excessive, I don't want to be caught a few years from now wishing I had purchased some piece of equipment while it was a lot cheaper, and when I had the income to spare. Just my thinking. Others may differ..... [tongue]

Cheers,

Frank

Frank,
Seems to me that you are enjoying the research and purchase aspect of setting up shop. So far, you've been acquiring some pretty impressive tools. It's nice to see that you have plans for being creative and productive in retirement. I say, right on Frank, enjoy your life! Good for you!

Frank,
If I was in  your shoes I'd be doing the same  [thumbs up]

Frank , did the motor carrier place that Hammer  into the garage for you OR did they just drop it off on the curb side ?

They put it right where I wanted it IN the garage. Not a peep of complaint from the lone driver. My Powermatic 3520B Lathe was delivered the same way....from the street, up my driveway, and into the garage via liftjack.  Didn't even need mine! [big grin]

To get the Hammer off the pallet, I used the bolts required on the back of the unit, used a heavy piece of scrap plywood built up to the top of the pallet and supported by scrap 2X4 pieces...then simply used my liftjack up the new ramp and brought the Hammer Down [smile].  (And while not recommended by Felder, I was able to assemble and install the unit in my shop without any help at all. The same cannot be said about my Lathe!! [eek])

Don't delay getting yours Slappy. You will fall instantly in love, and IMHO, the Silent Partner is five steps above the blades. Easy to change the carbon cutters if damaged  or worn, and a 50% reduction in noise level over the blades. Technically, you don't need hearing protection with the Silent Partner, because decibel level is below the hazard point of 85 decibels. Nonetheless, your Dust Collector will still probably be making more noise.  The digital wheel is also a critical upgrade as virtually every Hammer owner has alluded.  I opted for the standard mobility system. Many others don't like it, but for me it's fine.

Cheers,

Frank

the process to get this machine into my shop has begun  [tongue]
Felder Sacto said they'd place into the shop as long as my driveway is not long & winding (it is not )

Mid February is the timing on the next machine to get to Sacto
Kyle said that they have a Xmas special pricing & that the Xmas pricing was the best of the year for the accessories bar none !
This Xmas Timing is great for me  [big grin]

Frank,

I think you are 100% on the right road. I am following that same roadmap. Buying tools, taking classes, burning all the cash now while I still have excess cash-flow. I have been on this road for 6 years doing glass work, now I have moved over to woodworking, and I want to do some metal working before my 15 year plan runs out.
