Hello,
My name is Jason but everyone calls me Brush and am from Ann Arbor, Michigan USA.  I've been lurking this forum for years, purchased my first festool (ts55) around 10 years ago.  I now own a domino, ct sys, accessories and a couple stacks of various systainers and carts.  I've been a carpenter for nearly 20 years, spent about a decade as a finish carpenter.  Now back working for my father, a general contractor, we mostly focus on kitchen/bath remodeling and additions.  Although most of my skills are in residential carpentry, I'm trying to get more into furniture building and the like.  The only problem being time of course, outside of work and the house I spend a great deal of my time building bee boxes.  My girlfriend is a bee keeper trying to make it a career and I have designed a custom hive for her.  Maybe some day my custom bee box design will finally hit the market.

Now you triggered my curiosity, as part of my family is into bees (on a non-commercial level).

Thus: Welcome to actively posting... care to tell us more about these bee boxes, please?  [smile]

welcome [member=72336]Brush[/member],
to the ranks of woodworkers who post as well as being a reader.
I'm probably not the only one here who would be interested in seeing your Bee hive design posted here.

When I  was a pre-teen, a neighbor with no children of his own took a liking to me. He introduced me to the wonders of beekeeping and allowed to "adopt" one of his hives as my own. Being limited to a coping saw for my woodworking at the time he showed me how to make a special thin plywood fixture with window screen material  for holding the Queen bee for the marking process.

One of my fondest childhood memories and also a reminder that all of us need to take advantage of opportunities to introduce youngsters to the joy of building things made of wood.

Hans

PS: is Chuck Muers' still serving seafood in the old Ann Arbor railroad station? ?

Thanks,

I will definitely be sharing about my bee boxes here, probably more then some would wish for.  I'm not exactly sure if I want to try to pursue any kind of patent on them, if I even can, so some details may be left a secret for now.  I will think about getting something together about them to make a separate post in the near future.

You're referring to The Gandy Dancer I take it.
I just learned about it a minute ago from Lisa (the girlfriend), but apparently Chuck Muers disappeared at sea nearly 30 years ago.  After that the restaurant was sold to Landry's but is still open to this day and still serving seafood.  Lisa was the pastry chef there for a few years, so I can no longer comment on the quality of desserts being served.

Welcome to the forum!  [smile]

Sounds like some interesting projects going.
