I believe it was for the MFT 800 and MFT 1080 to allow for repeated cuts.

Yep - I have one - was used on older MFT's but I retrofitted it to work with my MFT/3 - by adding a couple of pieces of aluminum so it would work given the different side rails on the old style and new style tables

Allows repetitive cuts by setting it to the right of the rail on the MFT table and indexing a consistent width for cutoffs.
