I am new to the FOG.  I have been watching many videos about using the Festoons.  I recently purchased a TSC55, MFT# table and dust extractor.  I have noticed when I start cutting, dust comes out of the viewing port.  In a video, can't remember which one, I saw a TSC 55 equipped with an attachment that I did not recognize.  It looked like a Festool part. It screwed on where the splinter guard attaches and was Festool green.  It looked like it better covered the opening.  Any ideas?  Thanks

First,  [welcome] to the FOG! I hope that you are enjoying your new tools.

When you say 'viewing port', do you mean the square cut out in the saw body, where you change the blade? If so, the easiest thing to do is use some blue tape to cover that up. I am pretty sure Festool does not make a part for that area, I have seen other remedies, including a 3D printed part which was green...

The below pic illustrates what I am talking about. Different saw and application, same idea though--

[size=13pt]Alternatively, [member=61189]pilotboat[/member] may be referring to the Green Splinter Guard which should have come in the scope of delivery. There is also a clear one in the delivery scope. These green guards are easily replaced and readily in stock at most dealers, as they wear out.

Well they kinda do! Google TS55 cover plate

This is a simple side cover idea.http://festoolownersgroup.com/festool-jigs-tool-enhancements/a-simple-ts-7555-dust-cover/

Otherwise the forward clear or green cover/splinter guards were already covered in that they came with the saw. With the splinter guards being a consumable.

Huh, how did I not know about that! I may have confused the cover plate (491750 $61 USD) for the 491469 Parallel Guide.

I looked up what I paid for mine, and it was $42.80, but I believe it was an open box item with no retail packaging. The nice thing about it is it covers the entire side right down to what you are cutting. Obviously this means it can't be used on a 45* cut though. There are other times you need to see the blade while cutting and it can't installed. Plus the splinter guard can not be screwed down only set in place by friction. I suppose it could be used as an outside guide, hence the phenolic strip.

Sure wish they made it drop down for better dust collection when just nipping the material.
