Looking to purchase a RAS 115

RAS 115? Ah, aren't we all!

They come up sporadically now and then. I usually look on FB Marketplace and then set the search areas around the places where I am, where I'll be traveling, or where I have conspirators who will act as emissaries.

It's been a few months since I've seen one, but the last seller was asking $750 for an RAS that looked to be in good condition. Sadly, it's one of those tools that those who have them tend to keep them.

I wouldn't bother getting one at this point.
You can no longer get discs for them. It has been my favorite scribing tool for about 15 years, and I'm down to my last box of 40 grit. I have 2 new RAS as backups once they were discontinued

When they were discontinued I purchase one to have as a back up.
Since I’m semi retired now. I decided to sell my first unit and bring out the new second unit.
I sold it on marketplace for $400 to a gentleman that lived less than a mile from me.

You need patience and a lot of searching, you’ll find one.

As morts10n said. The finding paper will also be hard to fine.
I have a good amount of stock.
The guy that bought the above unit wanted some paper. Which he got one new sheet with it.
Hopefully sandpaper manufactures will come to our rescue

The RA 115 was the first Festool I bought. It was being discontinued and on clearance for $219 with a free Festool t-shirt or hat. If I had known, I would have purchased a half dozen of them.

An option is to install the Festool FiberFix pad 485298 and then you can use more conventional style abrasives.

The RAS-115 was unique. I fortunately have some papers left as I bought a huge assortment. Glad to see guybo found a replacement so I don't have to be so cautious of using it all up!

I think if I wanted a RAS-115 today, I'd consider the Arbortech power carving tool. Looks a lot like a RAS. DC is with a guard attachment so I don't think it would be quite as good, but it has some advantages: a leveling foot, ability to attach a number of other carving blades (like the Turbo Plane), etc. Give the video on the product page a quick look. You'll see that it could act like the Renofix RG-130 with the paint blade for stripping pretty easily using a Turbo Plane blade.

My RAS has been my go-to for scribing and fast reduction in awkward places. Yesterday I used it to ever-so-slightly open up a hole in the floor that I had cut for a new HVAC register. It has just enough reach to do the job well, and when it's attached to my CT Mini, there is almost zero residual dust. My HVAC contractor was delighted to know that I had done much of the preliminaries to make his job that much easier, including providing him with measurements and a photo so he can pre-make the necessaries to complete the job.
