I've got close to 1000' of maple casing that has chatter marks all over it from the mill. I am curious if the do it yourself kit can make a pad to sand the entire moulding in one pass. It is 3 1/2" wide casing.

The pad is only 80mm wide, or a little under 3 1/4".  I would be worried about the point on the left where the convex and concave profiles meet, since it's details are liable to get sanded down with too blunt a pad.  You could attempt it with the DIY progile and just choose whether to fall short on the right or left side of the moulding profile, which you could then finish up with one of the prefabbed LS profiles.

Having attempted this before with crown molding, my answer is no.  The paper and the hook/loop does not handle sharp corners and crevices very well and will round them over ruining the lines of your molding.  You could do the cove and bead profiles separately but with 1000 ft of the molding, it is a lot of work even with the LS-130.

For a power option, if you have the right equipment, I would be looking at a custom sanding head such as offered by Turbosand.  Alternatively, the manual option would be a shop made custom scraper.
