LS130 Question

I'm considering an LS130 straight sander.  I had a Porter Cable detail sander that had a straight line action, and I found that the paper loaded up almost instantly making the tool useless.  How well does the paper last with the LS130?  I'd likely only be using 1/8" on either side of the corner...joe

Haven't had that problem.  For example, I smoothed the inside of the coopered door pictured below with two sheets of 80 grit and the sheets of finer grit still look new.  The smoothing involved a lot of material removal as the 5 boards were joined on the edges at a 3 degree bevel.

Probably depends a lot on what you were sanding.

Some finishes, such as varnishes and oil finish tend to load up paper quicker than lacquer.

Also depends a lot on what grit of paper you're using.  Coarser grits tend to load up slower.

Hi,

It will load more than on a ROS or other type of sander. But not enough to make it unable to do the job, and do it well.  The loading will depend on the profile to some extent also. The suction works better on some shapes than others, depending on how the dust may get trapped in the profile. But it does a very good job, and the sander works the way it is supposed to. I have never used the PC profile sander , but I know that others have commented on here - that it does not work very well, especially compared to the LS130, which does work well. Also when you are sanding using only a narrow portion of the paper, you can shift the paper on the pad in order to get the most out of the sheet.  If you haven't already checked it out see my reviewhttp://festoolownersgroup.com/index.php?topic=1756.0
