Luggage Bags

Southwest Airlines no longer allows free luggage on their flights.  There is a fee for all luggage.

Frontier Airlines is trying to capitalize on that by giving out free carryon luggage bags.

Back in the early 1970s, Avis, the car rental company, was giving out soft side bags with each rental made.  At one point I had 4 or 5 and I declined to accept anymore.

The. Problem was that there were probably hundreds of thousands of these bags.  If they got on the luggage carousel, there would be anywhere from 5 to 10 others identical to yours.  Basically, it was unusable for air travel.

So, as a gym bag, maybe?  There were 5 or 6 members of my gym that were all using that same bag.

So the bags will be an edge for Frontier for a couple of months, and then they will be tossed away, or used for storage in garages or basements.

If you don’t study history your are destined to make mistakes of the past.  (I forget who said that.)

Google to the rescue:

The quote is most likely due to writer and philosopher George Santayana, and in its original form it read, “Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it.”

Packard - Frontier currently charges a fee for all of your bags except for what they call a personal item that is small enough to fit under the seat in front of you so a fee for a carry on that goes in the overhead and a fee for a checked bag.

Southwest has constantly tried to emphasize that they gave you 2 free checked bags unlike the budget airlines. So to kind of stick it to Southwest after they announced charges for checked bags would be coming, Frontier is waiving the fees for a carry on, a checked bag and for seat selection with a code for a limited time. They aren't giving away an actual flight bag.

Thanks for that explanation.  I will have to go back and re-read the article.  I’m surprised that I got that so wrong.

I found the reference.  If you don’t read the entire article, I can see how my misunderstanding occurred.

Travelers on Frontier can receive the Economy Bundle for free, which includes a free carry-on bag, free seat selection and free flight changes for all nonstop travel through Aug. 18, the airline said.

A more accurate way to express that (and just 5 more keystrokes to accomplish that):

Travelers on Frontier can receive the Economy Bundle.  That would include no charge for a carry-on bag, no charge for seat selection and no charge for flight changes on all nonstop travel through August 18.

I added my preferred wording above and repeating here:.

I'd be pretty stoked if they let me take an airline seat home with me..!

Yeah, I missed that too.  But my rephrasing avoids that issue too.
