This magnet came out of my CXS drill when I removed  a Centrotec bit. looks like the adhesive gave out.  What adhesive do you recommend I use to reattach the magnet inside the driver?

Two part epoxy would probably be the best.  Super glue would probably be okay to use as well.

I hope Ken doesn't get himself in trouble on this topic again. [tongue] [big grin]

Whoops, another report on something that is not a "common" problem ......  [scratch chin]

I had the same problem and also used 2P10 (so far) successfully. And this is just a VERY minor annoyance with a wonderfully useful tool.

Until you LOSE the magnet because it comes out on a moment you don't notice it. Happened with a bitholder of mine, the BH150. Had to contact Festool Germany before I got a replacement, Festool The Netherlands (my country) wouldn't even help me.

Face it, so many reports now of the magnets coming loose. The glue Festool uses is simply CRAP. And that shouldn't happen, especially with Festool, because they charge double price for supposedly being the best of the best.

OK thanks Shane I will try the 2 part epoxy. I will also give it a try on my Kreg push stick the magnet came loose only weeks after I bought it. Kreg replace it with a new push stick.

[big grin]  I suppose that's a jab at Festool.  That doesn't seem like the best way to get a new CXS from them. [tongue]

Greg, you asked what type of adhesive to use. If you would like us to repair it, please contact the service department and we'll make arrangements to take care of it for you. It's covered under warranty.  [wink]

I've been told that Germany made a change to adhesive used to secure the magnets shortly after the introduction of the CXS in the US/Canada. So, this issue has been corrected.

Shane

Before I send it back I will try the two part epoxy. I think it would be overkill to send it back.
Should I contact service about the magnet on the C15?
Thanks Greg

I had the same problem with my CXS which was bought on day one of availability.  The magnet quickly fell out and rolled away.  Festool mailed me a new adapter but the magnet in that one came out a few weeks to a few months later. Apparently the magnet is a lot stronger than the adhesive they use. That one I glued in with System Three brand T-88 two part clear epoxy.  The open time is around 30 minutes and it cures to full strength in about 24 hours.  I have used this epoxy for a number of shop projects and it has never disappointed.

Don't tell Shane, but I recently moved a cabinet and found the original errant magnet.  It too is now epoxied where it belongs, so now I have two adapters!

I used to struggle with this until I converted to Quantum Mechanicsism... now I understand and accept that everything is both common AND uncommon at the same time....

Greg, if you're having a problem with your C15 or have one in the future, the service department can help you out. The drills are covered by warranty for three years. If it's during the first year, we pay shipping both ways, to and from.

I'm more of a liberal parent.  I let my magnets go out during the day while I'm working and return at night when I'm not.  I figure if they stick together in pairs, they'll be safer on their own.

I must say the magnets on my T15 seem to holding on, even though it's only a couple months old. That's more than could be said of my 1 year old CXS which lost both within a couple months.

The way I fixed mine was 3M VHB tape.

Clean the arbor and magnet well with alcohol or brake clean. Cut off about, ahh heck here's a video, easier than typing it out.

Place the magnet on a bit, it holds the magnet for you.
