mains adaptor for battery tools

I am on the fence about ever getting a corded or cordless Carvex, i have a corded Bosch now that works ok but not as good as i would like. In the workshop i would prefer a corded model because it will last longer and cost less in the long run, and it's hooked to the CT so it turns on automatically when i use it.
But often when i'm at the lumberyard i need to get boards that are too long for my truck and need to haul them all the way inside and cut them in half, there i am always wishing i had a cordless jigsaw, it would be so much more easy. So i was thinking this could be solved by making a simple transformer 240v to18v that has the exact shape of the festool batteries and clips into all the cordless tools like a battery, so they are connected to the mains and run like corded tools. The carvex being hooked to the vac and not wearing out the batteries would be one application. But it has happened to us all that we forget to recharge the second drill battery and when we find out it can be a small disaster as you need to stop for the time it takes to recharge.
Or when using a pocket hole jig, having the vac turn on with the drill so it cleans out the jig would be handy.

What do you say, if it existed would you buy it?

Yeah I remember Deano!  I wish festool did make something like that be awesome! 

Makita do something similair they have this battery pack. You stick two 18v batteries in and you fix that onto your belt than a lead with a fake batterie well I assume it's nothing more than a adapter  only has a few wires inside and nothing else because it feels so light and sounds hollow so that fits onto the SDS.

So you have basically a 36v SDS now.   

Would of been better if they made that a real battery so you would have 3x 18v batteries then.

I don't have that empty battery thing problem your talking about cus I own 5 festool batteries 18v and 14.4 cus the carvex runs on both I normally always have at least one charged.  If it does start to happen I run out of charged batteries I'll just buy some more  [big grin]

hmm, i didn't see that thread. But it seems weird that it can't be done, the syslite works that way, on it's own battery, any other battery or a mains transformer. And the transformer is half the size of a CXS battery.

"Can't be done" is nonsense - it's just a power supply!  But there's a good chance you wouldn't like it.  Due to the high current required by the tool and the need to mimic the smart interface to the battery, it would likely be heavy, bulky, and expensive.

It's called an inverter. They are common here but I don't know how much it would cost to get one with enough current capacity to run the saw. Just leave the CT out of it.

I've seen this discussion across 3 other WW forums, for over 5 years.  Somewhere an electrical engineer piped in with some technical mumbo jumbo.
It IS possible, but the transformer / power supply / inverter would have to be quite large to be effective.  And costly.

It's the amperage that's the problem.  DC provides lots of amps in a small package and motors are made for the DC batteries.
But this is why it works for lights and other very small power-sipping products.
