I'm making a shop made boom arm with PVC pipe after seeing a bunch here that looks great. How high does it really need to be?  Just a little over the user's height enough?  I want to attach mine to my vacuum cabinet.  What is the correct placement direction of your hose coming to the work area when doing your work?  So I'm asking where do you position your boom arm - in front of you to the right, behind to the right, etc?

thanks,
Rob

the height is up to you  but the higher the better. mine is about 6' 6" off the ground bolted to the wall and i constantly wish it was higher as i feel like i will hit it. it always feels in the way. i will eventually put it up to about 4" from the ceiling (8' roughly).

i usually have the hose on whichever side is most comfortable for the job im doing. sanding ,dominoing, routing, sawing all need the hose in different positions and more or less slack
