Came across the Makita DLX2221BT2 combination over in the UK which looks like it's equivalent to the Makita subcompact line in the US, just with a nice stacking box. I am struggling to find the insert number though, as I'd love to either get a Makpac or maybe just another T-Loc to get these drills into my current setup. Does anyone here happen to have this kit to know if they are the same drills and what the part number on the plastic insert tray is?

I would also like to have the insert for my subcompact combo. Have you tried calling Makita?

[member=67056]ColossusX[/member] that appears to be an insert for the more "standard" drills, but I have wondered if it might work well anyways. It seems that they have one other insert that allows both the drill and driver to go nose down into the insert, as opposed to the drill being laid diagonally. This also leaves room for a pack of bits.

Unfortunately it seems most tools makers ignore the US market when it comes to tool containers and inserts. It's difficult to find Bosch tools in L-boxxes for instance. Or Makita in their Makpacs. Or Metabo on their versions. I've settled on Systainers (classic and Tloc) and Dewalt Tough System for my tools. I'm forced to use foam inserts or custom inserts. It seems the European and Pacific rim markets have a much better time in getting inserts and boxes.
Yes, looks like custom is going to have to be the way to go unless I get a response from Makita directly. Appears the insert that [member=67056]ColossusX[/member] linked to is for the larger drills and probably won't fit. I may end up just getting two medium boxes instead of a single large and making flat Kaizen inserts for each.
you are correct, the lack of efficiency in the inserts is a problem. That is for sure. I actually make my own inserts because theirs are so poorly thought out. I understand why they do it, I just find them on the whole to be sub optimal. Easily corrected, but irritating.
As far as early failure I am not sure about that. I have been using them for quite some time. Even brought in Tanos when they were not available here. I have had very few issues with them. I have had more problems with the the blow form boxes. Let alone the inability to easily modify the interiors of those. However choice is king and people should use what ever works for them. I use a combination of Sortimo and systainers and that works for me. I have a ton of both. Heck, I even have a bunch of wood Starrett boxes living with my tools. Not sure if they get along when the lights go out. [unsure]
