I have this idea for a miter stand/ work table type of thing. I was looking to make it out of melamine ( easy to whip down was my thought)

My question is should I add built in shelves for support? it seems like it might wobble a bit without them. but I'm not sure that's why I ask.. And last question is melamine a good choice?

Thanks W.

I'd just put a back on it and it would stiffen right up.

Adding shelves wouldn't hurt, but it won't stop racking. You need support from corner to corner to do that, which a back will do.

I knew it was missing something, lol. Ever have one of those "duh" moments..

Almost all of the cabinets, out feed tables, tool stands in my shop are made of melamine. Bright, easy to clean and heavy. The oldest is a 25 year old miter stand with collapsible wings, still hanging together. I have used some white glue on edge banding but mostly use 3/4 by 3/4 oak. Just don't ever get it wet!

I've never managed to post photos to FOG. If you would like some pictures of the melamine in my shop PM me a email I can send to.

Yeah same reasons I choose it, figured it could handle a little weight, and easy to clean. I was Also thinking of drilling some wholes underneath where the miter saw is going to sit (like the pattern on an mft top) for dust collection, maybe put one of those dust intakes at the bottom, something like this ( hopefully better looking and not as big)

Do u think that's overkill for the Kapex?

I'm just so used to other miter saws that pretty much just toss the dust everywhere.
