Metal studs drywalls with a CXS or C18?

Hi all,

Soon I need to place a few drywalls and some ceilings.  Any change my C18 / CXS is good enough or are they to slow (RPM wise) for metal studs? Was thinking of a DD-DC attachment.... :-\

Thanks all!

Stay home and stay safe!

The CXS with the old style battery (I own two of those) may be a bit underpowered for that. Also, the small battery won’t hold up long. With four batteries, like I have, charging the ones not in use not a problem.

Hi Bert, thanks! I have the newer CXS version.

The reason I asked was: there is big gap in RPM with the DWC-18 (4500). And since FT has a wood (2500 RPM) and metal (4500 RPM) that me think the RPM is a big deal  [blink]. Maybe more important if you do nothing else than drywalling 24/7?

The high RPM of a tool like the DWC-18 is to let professionals who do this all day work as fast as possible. It is not a necessity. Any drill will work as you don't need much force to drive the screws into the thin metal. I would prefer the C18 but the CXS should work too. I've done this plenty of times with my T15.

If you have the C18, it should be more than capable. As Alex says, a specialty tool is mostly about speed and efficiency of work. I have tested my C18 with the DC UNI FF on drywall with drywall screws with wood backing - and I think it was brilliant. Have not tried it on metal though. Definitely more fiddly than a dedicated drywall unit, but consistent results.

Maybe use those drywall screws that have a drill bit at the end of them.

Using the correct fastener may be key to less frustration.

I can now verify that the newer depth stop chuck; DC UNI FF also fits CXS/TXS:
