Hoping someone can help as I can't seem to find any description or images of how the MFS can be used for routing on narrow edges in a real world scenario.

I specifically want to use it for hinges and to makes recesses for the wall plates for a floating shelf project I am taking on.

I've seen hinges and mortices referred to in the supplementary guide and Peter Parfitt demoes a hinges on a cut off section of door but just leaves it at "you'll need to figure out how to clamp it on a full sized door"

If it can't do it then I'll have to swallow it and buy or make dedicated jigs, just thought its a good justification to buy the MFS 400 if it can do what I need and t hen have something with a useful life after the project I am doing now.

Here are some hinge mortises being plugged & recut on a Simpson door using the MFS.

The standard angle brackets that come with the MFS are very short and trying to get the short brackets attached with clamps can mean there's a lot of equipment in a very small area.  [sad]

I just took some aluminum angle and fabricated longer angle brackets using the MFS, the 1400 and an aluminum router bit. This allows me plenty of space for proper clamping.

Here's what the underside of the MFS with the angles attached looks like.

And here are a couple of shots showing how much room there now is for clamping. The area you're routing is free of clutter and potentially safer than before.

thanks for this. I'll look to do this when I get a bigger router in a few months time, for now I am using my cordless Makita trimmer as its all light duty stuff I've been doing.

I like the racket knobs you've used for attaching the fence.
