Hey Luke,

Hard to justify US$575 for a fancy work table that gets cut up, glue spills, banged around in and out of the van, etc.  That being said - I bought one two years ago and just bought another one!

They rock!

HAH!

Try justifying £518 ($842) in the UK!!!

Still going to get one though!! [eek] [scared]

Hi ive only had my tabel for 4 weeks and think is the dogs however I dont think I would want to take it onto a site with all gizmos attached without a security gard. Im awaiting delivery of my Qwas dogs, if you haven seen Gary,s videos re the dog holes I dont think you have perceived the use of the table

£518? You're not up to date,they're now £553.20 which is around $900...

I just don't see how comparing costs across borders makes any sense at all. It just doesn't. They are different governments., different day to day costs, different pay scales, living expenses, government benefits, etc, etc, etc.
,
Don't you get it, at 900.00 US they would go out of business in the US, in the UK you guys pay it. Ever think there is a reason for that? How can you guys buy the tools at that cost? You can and do.  Think about it. If it were a simple dollar conversion you would not be buying the tools at that elevated price. There is a whole lot more to it, way beyond the scope of this forum.

I think it is fair enough to say that Festools are simply expensive everywhere.

Something's not right there - I got that price from the Festool UK website. The MFT/3 is classed as a tool, not an accessory, so dealers are not allowed to discount the price at all.

Either the price is wrong on the Festool site, or it's wrong on Power Tool World's site. If the Festool site is correct, then they won't be happy with PTW for selling below list...

Maybe I'm missing out, but I've had my 1080 for a couple of years now, and I've not taken it onsite yet.  At 70 lbs or so, it's a bit heavy and bulky.  No way would I travel without my tablesaw onsite as well.  Having a jobsite tablesaw allows me consistent & fast ripping ability of any length as well as allowing me a router table onsite in the extension wing for edge treatment or making custom mouldings onsite.

Used it to take some 1x8 and 1x4 Poplar to make some custom profiles for a wainscoting job a few months back.

Here's my jobsite saw setup: (actually two setups - old Bosch saw and the newer model)
http://www.juliantracy.com/Bosch%20Tablesaw/

The other day I was building some plywood mitered stairway posts, about 8"x8" wide.  Trying to do that with a track saw would have been maddening.  But with a tablesaw, it was quick and accurate.

I use my Festool TS55 and rails for just about every job, but to suggest they supplant a real tablesaw setup is ridiculous for a remodeling carpenter imo.

Like the guy here making drawer boxes with his TS and Domino -- could make them in 1/4 the time with a tablesaw and router table.

Next time I do some built-ins, I'll probably bring along the MFT, but as a day-in/day-out bring the worksite work surface, it's not worth bringing unless you really need some wide crosscutting ability.

I like green and black stuff as much as the other guy, I just not as gushing about it as most here, and there are, believe it or not - sometimes better ways to accomplish a given task.

Julian, I'm with you, I simply could not be without a jobsite table saw (BTW, I like your table saw setup [thumbs up]).  I don't bother to bring my MFT to the job very often, the times I have it has been invaluable.  If it were more feasible to haul a trailer in Pittsburgh I might have the MFT on ever job.

We get these kinds of comments here all too often.  Nothing wrong with having and expressing a different opinion-it's the almost condescending tone that gets old.  It's a Festool enthusiast site, people are going to be enthusiastic about the tools and how they use them.  No one gets offended or upset when a different opinion is respectfully posted.
