For my first MFT would you recommend the jewelery or not?  Do the attachments go on and off easily enough without hurting accuracy and reliability?  It would be used for mor than just a cutting station.  Thanks for your thoughts.

Doug:

I think you would be cheating yourself to get a MFT Basic as your first MFT.

On the MFT/3, the accessories can be removed and replaced without changing accuracy. You position the guide rail elevator/mounts against a stop on each side of the table, which remains in place and out of your way when they are removed.

As long as you don't bang around the pivot mount significantly when it is disassembled, it will return to the same place. The pivot mount is the one with the adjustment. It takes quite a rap to knock it out of alignment.

The same is true of the fence mount.

The fence mount is located on the table profiles (extruded aluminum frame) by the v-groove on top so they return to the same position relative to the table when removed, replace, or moved.

+1 on the complete.

I'm considering adding a second mft/3 and will probably get the complete set for it as well. There is a lot of value in the extra guide rail and fence for just $100 difference.

I would buy a second one if I could get some sort of clamping package instead of the fence and rail

There was a clamping set a while back that had the Clamping Elements, 2 screw clamps, and 2 quick clamps at a $25 discount.

If the set was bought with an MFT, the savings was about $40.

Maybe it will come back?

Buy the complete package as a first MFT3. I think the basic package only barely makes sense if it is your 2nd or 3rd MFT. For the minimal cost difference the accessories are well worth it, even if it is your 2nd MFT. You can always use another rail and guides for long pieces stretched across two MFT's.
We discussed this very issue of 'different' accessory packages in Lebanon. A full clamping element package instead of the guide rails for the same price was specifically brought up in Lebanon. All of us who already own MFT's were very much in favor of such a package.
The general idea of Festool allowing custom accessory packages for various tools to be added/switched was discussed also. From what I remember, Festool USA at least, was open to the idea.

I guess a better question would be, why would you buy just the table, without all the attachments, instead of just making a table? The fittings are the reason to buy into the system. But there are cheaper tables out there.
