MFT 3 Problem

I have bought a MFT 3 table and have a small problem.
I am not sure if this normal but maybe some of you have the same problem. If I use the guide in the low position and have the stop turned out of the way it is still above the guide (see picture) it’s not a lot but approximately 1 mm.

Mine is the same. If it is in your way, you could always use the alternate configuration.

Tom

EDIT:
I just reread this and realized that I didn't make myself clear...

If you pull the extrusion all the way out of the angle unit, you can turn it up on end and reinsert it. This is the "alternate position" i mentioned above. It is for taller work pieces.

Of course, you have to remove the flag stop and remount it in the position such that the long leg reaches the table.

Hi wouter ram,

Happy first post!  [smile]

Interesting.  [scratch chin]  I haven't used mine enough to have noticed.  Probably shouldn't be that way, but if they are all like that, I think the easiest fix would be to just file the corner off.  Or maybe Festool has a replacement part that is a bit smaller?

Just checked mine, it's also in the way but just barely. Not 1 mm, I think one or maybe two light strokes with a file would be enough.

This is an interesting observation, but I don't know if I would classify it as a problem.  In most cases you would like to have a fence close to the thickness of your material or taller behind the workpiece.  With the fence having two positions I image that this situation wouldn't be an issue like Tom said if the taller setup was used.

Just my thoughts.

Peter

I haven't noticed this - don't think I've been in the position to, but I can imagine this feedback has already got through to Festool design ... bit of an oversight that - and very easy for them to fix!

Thanks, for the response from all of you.

Now I am confident its not a problem with my MFT but it is a general problem.
To me it’s a bit sloppy from a brand like Festool that this is not solved by them. I had contact with the dealer (in The Netherlands) and it was new to them.

I am forwarding this topic to the Dutch Festool dealer so they can see it’s a common problem. Keep you posted if I get a answer from them.

Thnx,

Wouter

Here are some photos of my flag stop. Agreed that it is very close but mine does clear the workpiece.
Here are some views for general perusal.

Another view.

And another.

And yet another.

Hope this helps or further frustrates.

Since its 2X material that is the issue, Have you turned the fence on its side and tried using the stop in that position?

Notice the flag stop has a long and short end.  Its designed that way to be able to use it with the fence on the high position.

I will go out to my shop today and see if I can duplicate the problem and if turning the fence on its side will solve the problem.

I use my MFT regularly and never noticed this issue.  When checking today, I see that the stop does protrude in the way of the stop when tight.  However, I find that mine are mostly loose when I'm not actually using it.  Thus, it hasn't been an issue for me.  This is an interesting find.

I just realized that  Reply #1 wasn't very explicit so I edited it to make it clearer what I meant by "alternate position".
