Just received these today, and have not tried yet. But in reading the manual (needs work), it doesn't really explain how to protect the MFT from getting slices in it. I'm guessing that a backer board be used, and adjusting the track height to accommodate the backer and the work piece. Seems the sensible thing to do.

Thanks!

Dale, welcome to the FOG.  You can certainly place something under your workpiece to protect the top or you can cut into your top.  The tops are reversible and spinnable so you can get clean areas 4 times.  Some people have filled their kerfs with Bondo or something else after time.  All up to you.

Just remember to watch your blade depth setting.  You don't want to cut the aluminum profile on the front or cut all the way thru the table top.  And don't let your rear fence extend past your rail.  The Festool blades cut aluminum well.  [eek]

Have fun!!

Welcome to the FOG!  As Peter indicated, you can use a backer board and the tops are consumable items -- I just cut into mine.  I have had it a few years now and it still has lots and lots of life left in it.  Some users have really cut up their tops.  They last a long time and so personally, I would not mess with a backer board.

Have fun with your new tools and let us know if you have any other questions.  This forum has lots of great members willing to help answer questions and offer advice.
