how many of you use a mft with a cms unit joined .is it any use and is it worth using it with all the acessories ie track saw sander jigsaw and router

When I use the Incra fence on my CMS router the fence is mounted on dogs that are on the MFT so the two are joined together. Could also use it with the saw module and Incra fence but that has not happened yet.

I've got a CMS-VL on my MFT/3 and a separate CMS-GE. Having the two when you have several modules is great, though the saw tends to sit in the GE with the extra extensions, rip fence and slider and the router tends to hang in the VL mostly.

The VL tends to make the MFT/3 more solid too (I also have the leg braces on it).

I'm surprised we haven't see a dual VL MFT setup [eek] [big grin]

How does one actually join the CMS to a MFT/3? I assume one would need some connectors, do they go in the v-groove and under it like the UG extensions on a Kapex? Does festool provide this in kit form?

The CMS has a male v that fits into the female v on the MFT and has a clamping tab the creates upward pressure from below the v profile.  I am in the process of buying another CMS so I can set them up back to back.  I am going to use two of the short MFT/CMS profiles so that I can put a short (10-12") solid or MFT style piece between the two tables.  I'm doing this so I can place the Woodpeckers Micro Adjust between them to accurately position the fences.  This will allow me to make doors and different profiles without tearing down and resetting every change.

This is how I would like to work.  Unfortunately you can't buy a VL separate in The States.  [dead horse]

The CMS-GE standalone unit doesn't connect to an MFT/3. To connect to the MFT/3 you need the CMS-VL unit.

Is it correct to assume they the sliding table, cms fence(s) etc will all fit in the v groove
on the mft? In that case would it not be possible to make an additional mdf plate for the mft customed to fit the cms insert plates?

Maybe not a recommendable solution, but would it be possible?

No it won't work.

The sliding table has tabs that sit in the v groove profile (red arrow) but also requires the screws to be fixed into the side of the cms table with the mft does not have (blue arrow)

There is a way to get it to connect. It is a bit "hack-y" but you can get it done with some pipe and clamps. Essentially you will attach a pipe from leg to leg and then use it to attach the slider to.

Always a way!

Cheers. Bryan.

The MFT/3-VL (or CMS-VL) comes with two tabs for attaching the sliding table to. You could either add some aluminium angle to your MFT/3 table or buy the tabs as spare parts. To be honest though, I'm not sure how well it would work and whether you would have any other issues.

Interesting. Tanks, I appreciate the information. So are these two tabs for receiving the screws, thus blue arrow purpose? Then it looks possible without to much effort. I will try to find out. I am building the mftc and have purcased one mft length of extrusion and the ts55 and PS inserts. Planning to add the sliding table as well and will have a go at it. Could be easier with the plywood on the Mftc I guess.
