Hey guys looking for an edge guide for my Milwaukee plunge router. Is that pretty universal with the two rods? Would the festool one work/be the best option?

The rod size and spacing varies from manufacturer to manufacturer. You need the specifications for your router and base you are considering to make sure they will work together. Simple solution is buy the recommended Milwaukee edge guide. High-end solution is to buy a Micro Fence edge guide if they have your router listed as one they can adapt to. Micro Fence Edge Guide

My Milwaukee 5615-20 and my PC690 fences can be interchanged with each other.
The 5615-20 is not a plunge router but I would think all the Milwaukee would be the same.

You're probably best to go with the Milwaukee or the Micro Fence if you really like the Milwaukee router.

Stock Milwaukee rods are only 7mm with a 60mm center to center distance.
1010 rods are 8mm with a 107mm center to center distance.
1400 rods are 8mm with a 79mm center to center distance.

yeah that's the router just with the second plunge base they come with. thanks i'll check the porter cable fence

Here are a couple of photos of the fence for my 5616-21 router. I'd think the 5615 would be the same.

Don't choke when you look at the price of the Micro Fence... [big grin]

not a comment I would expect at a Festool forum. I'm just say'n...  [wink]

$200 for a router guide even makes Festool buyers raise their eyebrows.

That $80-$100 bucks Festool charges is like an Xmas in July sale comparatively.

That's funny... [thumbs up]...Recently I just wanted to purchase a Micro Fence that could be swapped between my 1010 & 1400 and was surprised at the price...upwards of $350 for the combination that would work.  [eek]

That's what I paid for my 5616 router + plunge base + edge guide + sales tax...

Having said that, the Milwaukee 5616 "Palm Router" is still my favorite for edge rounding tasks.  [popcorn]

PC and Milwaukee fences lined up. They both also fit the PC compact router.
Didn't get a photo but the 5615, PC690, and the compact router can all use
the DeWalt router guide with the DeWalt track saw rail. Since the DeWalt router
rail guide fits those routers I would expect that the DeWalt router would fit the
PC and Milwaukee fences, but I don't have a DeWalt router to find out. I bought
the DeWalt router rail guide when I got my track saw and rails on the chance it
would fit one of my routers. They both did so I never bothered to get a DeWalt
router. I never would have bought the PC compact router but it came with my
Unisaw when they first came out with the new model 7 years ago.

Cheese - do you feel the fence has been worth the $350 expense ?

Hey [member=727]antss[/member] , I haven't purchased it yet... [doh] [doh]  I'm still fiddling with the standard Festool fences until I come upon a project that absolutely requires the Micro Fence. It'll probably happen...just don't know when. [tongue]

I have this set-up and it is worth every penny. Smoothest and easiest fence to adjust. The prices are going up sometime soon when Richard launches the new website and I think he is giving a 10% discount now off of current pricing, so I would suggest moving on it if you are interested. I just bought the 1010 and Bosch Colt adapters to use between the two. Honestly I think that the 1400 and 2200 edge guides are very good from Festool so not worth it to me to spend the $40 price for adapters to fit each of those routers. I thought the 1010 edge guide is not very good and more of an after-thought. Having the MF system changes that. I have had one for  10 years or so now and I recommend it. Richard is a great guy too and quickly answers any questions.

Hey [member=6605]ScotF[/member] , thanks for the input. I agree, the 1010 fence is a joke, it's especially hokey to adjust. I'll check out their website today.  [big grin]

[member=6605]ScotF[/member] For the 1010 microfence option, do you just have the basic edge guide, or is it worth it to get some of the extras for circle cutting or guide rail use?

When I bought it I was using a DeWalt router at the time - so I ended up with the edge guide and circle cutting jigs as well as the jig to adapt that router to the Festool guide-rail system. I used the circle cutting jig and the edge guide with that router for years and never did use it with the guide rails. I just bought the adapter for the 1010 and the Colt since I sold my DeWalt. It had been a year or so since I last used until recently and I was reminded again why I like it so much using it with the 1010. A perfect combination! Oh - you can get it in metric if you are so inclined - mine is imperial because that is all they sold back in the day.

I have thought about adding the elipse jig to the kit but have not pulled the trigger - no real project in the immediate future. I also have though about getting the plunge base for my Colt - that thing looks like it is smooth and easy to maneuver. But, I like my 1010 for those same type of tasks so I have not pulled the trigger. The lights look great, though.

the PC guide seems a little bulky for me with the big piece of bent sheet metal.
do you think this dewalt fence would work?https://www.amazon.com/DEWALT-DW691...ie=UTF8&qid=1495756462&sr=8-1&keywords=dewalt+router+guide

Not sure, but it may. This is the router guide I bought to use with the DeWalt track.https://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss_1?url=search-alias=aps&field-keywords=dws5031

What makes the micro fence worth 10x the price of the manuf.'s standard offering ?  [scratch chin]
