Also not a patent lawyer, but aren't they only hood for 7 years?  Or is that something different?  Pharmaceutical ?  Any who...  They didn't invent the Li-ion battery, so who are they to dictate how it is used.

All patents issuing now, covering inventions, are good for 20 years. There are also design and plant breed patents which are good for shorter periods.

Patents can cover not only an original invention like the Li-ion battery, but improvements and new uses for it.

GOD BLESS AMERICA, where lawyers charge horrendous fees to claim against companies with large bank balances and are defended by lawyers who charge horrendous fees to companies with large bank balances to defend them against the lawyers who p*ss in the same pot as them.
This disease arrived in the UK about 20 years ago and got to the same level of stupidity as the U$A about 5 years ago, hopefully, because of the anti USA beliefs, will never arrive in mainland Europe.

You forgot about hiring a second law firm to sue the first one who lost your case  [big grin]

And the fact that all the costs are added to the price of tools and then the government gains more with their taxes. One day you will need a lottery win to buy a Festool drill with a Li-ion Battery and two lottery wins to buy the set with 2 batteries.

Considering that being a lawyer is one of the top previous occupations (and fallback when out of office) of federal legislators, I don't hold my breath that they will police themselves with serious tort reform. No desire to go political with this thread, frustration with lawyers is almost universal...at least until you need one of course.

That's why we need an Ophthalmologist or a Pediatric Neurosurgeon to lead the battle against the lawyers from the top.
Just saying..... [tongue]

Cheers,

Well back to Milwaukee, added 6 more M18 batteries to the tool crib on black Friday plus some drills and a blower, great stuff at a great price.

Don't forget the Proctologist...

I've said it before here. Hippocrates stated that the highest profession was Medicine and the second highest profession was Law - to protect us from those who practice Medicine.

About 40+ years ago, I designed and my equipment welder fabricated a way of mounting a backhoe into my skid steer loader.  My welder informed me i was crazy.  I had made the mistook of going to my dealer who had sold the machinery to me to ask about hydraulics needed.  They told me i was even crazier.  Once I had the rig in operation, i was told by many I should get a patent on the setup.  I told my welder that maybe he should get a patent, as he had done the actual designing and fabrication.  We both decided that a patent would be worthless because by time we had spent all of our money on the legal stuff, which neither of us knew anything about anyway, somebody would come out with a better arrangement.

Within six months, one company was selling a much better setup to do the same thing my welder and I had done.  Then, within a few more months, another company had come out with something even better.  I was glad i had saved my money, but liked to think that there had been a few spies watching our "invention" to come up with some ideas that were not only better in operation, but safer in use as well.  today, every company that slls skid steers does essentially the same as my "original" idea.  They not only mount backhoes, but every other imaginal piece of equipment to the fronts of skid steers.

At the same time i had mounted a back hoe to the front of my skid steer, we also designed a method to mount a rake and a scraper to the front as well.  It was even simpler than the backhoe mount, but it was another year or so before we saw others coming out with mounts for everything.
