I recently put my newly acquired 5" CEROS to the test of prepping a deck railing for painting. The layers of old latex paint came off surprisingly quick using 40 grit Abranet HD.
It is not a belt sander, but I am pleased with it. If I had to hazard a guess, it took maybe 15-20 seconds per lineal foot (2x6 cedar, wide side up) to remove all the paint down to fresh wood. I originally was just going to remove the loose peeling stuff, but it all came off so easily, I just went for it.
With the lightness and form factor, it was easy to do the sides of the rail, as well. I also liked that the sander didn't get hot. I think having the vacuum running really helps keep the paper and pad cool.
The downside is I didn't have my quiet Fein vac with me, so we used an old Craftsman "3 HP Peak!" screamer.
I see they now have the DEROS which no longer has the external transformer, but at the cost of a slightly larger form factor for the sander.
