Hi Everyone

I have been putting in some hours with the X-Carve CNC and in particular the construction of a mobile cabinet that will protect it when not in use yet allow it to be operated easily when required. It has been a long haul as I came across a lot of fresh challenges and made a few mistakes as well.

There are two videos - the first is a general description of the mobile cabinet and the second shows the detail of the gas struts that I needed to use.

General Video:

Gas Strut Video:

I have learnt a lot from all of this and I hope it will help others.

In case anyone misses the statements in the videos - the castors, drawer slides and gas struts were supplied free of charge. Without the help from those companies I would not have embarked on this project and there would have been no videos.

Nice work.
When the cnc is in the lower position  could the lid be kept closed  whilst the  machine is operating  and  a dust  vacuum  system then  connected?

Well done, Peter.  Very clever.  It would seem to me, though, that there is possibly a good bit of side-play, once the CNC gets to working.  How have you resolved that?

Yes, the CNC can be use with the lid shut although I have not decided where the electronics pack is going yet.

Hi Willy,

I am not anticipating a problem but am prepared for one. If the slight give in the joints allows for a bit of movement, particularly harmonic movement, then I will simply use a pair of small rubber wedges which I have already set aside just in case. They will be inserted on either side of the lifting platform and against the main frame.

Hi Ali

Thank you so much but I must say that I went through some tough moments on this one.

Cheers.
