Mobile Kapex Mitre Station - Preview

Hi Everyone,

I am building a new mitre station for my Kapex and I have received a number of queries about it both through the FOG and YouTube. I have a lot more to do before I can release the video and I cannot finalise the plans until the project is complete. I have therefore taken a picture of it yesterday and added a few key dimensions (in mm).

I am using the same Coldene castors that I used for my mobile work bench (100 mm blue rubber and 130 mm high). There are extension wings on either side which are just over 300 mm wide and these can be folded down when not in use. The hinge mechanism is identical to that on the mobile work bench. The one on the left in the picture is faked in the up position as I have yet to add the support stays.

I will be fitting a fence with an adjustable stop but I have not finished my research yet and will be travelling to a few suppliers, quite a long way away, in order to find the right product.

I am sorry that it is taking so long to do this but I have more video work in hand at the moment than I have ever had before. I am also helping a very close friend with a major project and I cannot let him down.

Many thanks guys - the New Brit Workshop is manic at the moment. I have 4 video projects on the go but not near completion, I have just had a UK tool company asking for video reviews of their kit (which I have had to turn down) and we are close to the start of the woodworking show circuit which I try to follow. My wife is threatening to put a camp bed in the workshop for me and leave my meals outside the door !

Hi guys. I've only recently joined this site...big fan of Festool! I received my Kapex 120 just a few days ago and I'm in the middle of designing my work station for it. These dimensions will help a lot. At this point of time it'll be a basic and stationary one.

I have made the 880 mm dimension so that I can have the crown extensions fitted on each side all of the time.

Peter, can I ask if the 880mm dimension is a close tolerance measurement, i.e. what is the exact measurement across both ends of the saw with both crown extensions installed. I'm potentially going to go a similar route on my own bench and want a fairly exact measurement to work with if possible.

The 880mm is the minimum that allows you to get your hand in to secure (or undo) the clamping knob on the crown extension. If I could have saved 5 more mm I would have done as my aim was to keep the overall width to a minimum.

I am just uploading a video about different methods of applying Osmo Oils (indoor oils) and the mitre station (in current build state) can be seen in the background. I will create a FOG thread about the video later tonight if I can.

Thanks Peter, I will be replacing the standard Festool hand knob with a simple bolt as once in place it won't be moving. I'm aware that the knob actually extends beyond the width of the crown extension, hence why I'll replace it anyhow.

I want a fairly snug fit from the table to the crown, so a dimension from edge to edge is what I'm after if that makes sense.

I have just gone across to the workshop and the width of Kapex with wings attached is 840mm. I am now safely back in the house, the vampire bats did not get me and I have, for once, no spiders web stuck across my face. I am now going to rest.

I'm going to get the crown extensions and lower the saw to the level of my bench offsetting to the right. Will post pics on my original thread but keeping my eyes on your build as this is really giving me some steer.
