Following on from the vanity top the clients son found another bit of Elm, so while keeping in mind my coopered vanity unit and door idea I found that we have (fingers crossed) enough to do the top that will sit over the concealed cistern for the W.C.
The design required a bit of cunning use of the Elm and some offcuts plus everyones friend the "Domino" ;D
The result is a top that can be removed by sliding forward and lifting so no unsightly screws or pellets.
Yeah! yeah! you lot want some pics too.

The complete top, the sign is my first attempt at letter carving for a friends present..

The side pieces will be screw fixed to the frame of the boxing that hides the plumbing and cistern.

I grabbed a couple of pics of it installed....

Not the best pic but it looks like its one piece from the doorway.
The right hand wall will be lime rendered and plastered while the chimney breast brickwork will remain exposed on the left

The middle section slides forward easily to remove, it is scribed to the plasterboard/drywall but if I can find a long piece of Elm I may make an upstand to protect the sponged plaster skim that has been suggested for it from heavy handed leakies  ;D

Ta for looking in,
Rob.

very cool idea with the domino catch system!  I like it [thumbs up]

Clever use of a domino. But I'm a bit clueless about how there's a cistern in such a small space, I'm wondering if the term is used differently over there?

I like that idea for the removable top.

As PaulG, i was wondering about the cistern.
with close study of reply #1 @ the top picture, I can see what looks like it might be a copper tank.  I'm not sure if it is really copper, or the texture from the photography just makes it look like copper. It does not appear to be of very large capacity, or is most of the "copper tank" hidden behind the wall?

The cistern is the water tank for flushing the toilet . In the UK and Europe the maximum amount of water per flush is 6 litres therefore the cisterns are quite small and are made of  plastic . Looking at the pics there is no cistern fitted yet.

Elm is not at all common here since the outbreak of Dutch Elm Disease in the 70's when we lost between 25 and 30 million trees.
In over 30 years this is the first time I have used it.
BBC report on the disease

What looks like copper is foil backed plasterboard to the other bedrooms en-suite. The boxing in will be done after the water and waste pipes are run.

Thanks for the comments guys.
