I am moving to France this summer and wish to keep my CT33 and Domino - purchased in Canada. Would it be sufficient to go with a step down transformer 220-110V with a 2000 Watt capacity ( 1200 + 420 W) and will they perform well with the different frequency - 50HZ versus 60HZ ?

You should be fine. The motors will run at 50Hz

work out what you would get by selling them and add on the cost of shipping them half way round the country and the insurance costs etc and the cost of loosing any warrenty. im sure you wouldnt be that far away from buying new here in the eu and you will have a full warrenty. you might even start up a good relationship with your new junky (sorry dearer)

I'd agree. Sell up and buy new when you get there.
I actually bought a transformer and sold the bulk of my tools when I moved from US to AU.
I had very few things that I needed it for and I've always been very happy with my decision to sell up all the other tools. Unless you always use everything in one location that never changes, you will very quickly get sick of dragging the transformer around.
Even a smaller 1000w step down is a solid brick of steel. I've only ever used it to charge an 18v set of cordless tools and I'm about to buy another set in native volts, so I can get rid of it.

First, if you're planning to stay here for a longer time, years, then it's much more comfortable working with tools that are meant for the European grid. A step up transfomer will work of course, but I'm sure you'll get sick of hauling the thing around all the time very quickly. Now if you're using one to get a CMS working in North America, then the discomfort might be worth it because you're using a tool that is not available in NA. But you can get a Domino here in EU also.
Second, the market for used Festools is a lot bigger here than in NA, you'll easily find a good Domino and CTL 36 for about €1000 together. Domino €500, and CTL 36 €500. I mean, those prices count for used tools in pristine condition. Add a bit of usage marks and they're even cheaper. If you want a used CTL 33 you can get lucky already for €250. Did I mention used Festools are just as good as new ones? Because they are, built like a tank. [smile]
