Although this is my thousandth post since joining the FOG back in May, 2013, it is not a celebration, rather an offer of my appreciation to all members.
One thousand represents approximately 67 posts per month. Too many? I certainly agree. However through the trite and hogwash, I trust some members have been challenged, informed or were engaged to share the joke. [big grin]
FOG debates have often engaged me? Metric and Imperial comes to mind; four at last count. Then there have been my suggestions to move the 'Logout Button' and 'Ban +1'. "Ahhhh! Did he have to mention the Logout Button!", I hear Shane. [eek] At least it was moved, eventually!
The advice I have read and personally received regarding techniques, projects and tools has challenged me to higher criticism of my work, and consequently greater precision and improved techniques. Through posts that share cultural, craft and technical insights and differences my imagination has taken me to the worksites and workshops of members in the US, Canada, UK, and continental Europe. Even other parts of Australia. I have also read of the difficulties of working in Eastern Europe or Thailand, the general life of members in Finland, France and the Netherlands and I have been intrigued by the transportation challenges of those working in New York. And Tinker has told me of just how things were, 'back in the day'. A wealth of information and history from our 'youngest' member.
Since joining, four more Festool tools and two major accessories have found a home in the Untidy Shop. My 'dealer', if he knew, would pay specific tribute here to Paul M, Peter P, Peter H, Seth and Kev. He could also thank SittingElf, but I stopped trying to keep up with Frank long ago! [smile]
I have also obtained two Festool shirts, and a ruler thanks to competitions publicised on the FOG, but sadly no tools. Still one lives in hope next time. Perhaps a K A P . .! [wink]
But my biggest appreciation is to the three gentleman that make the FOG work as efficiently and effectively as it does - Shane, Peter H and Seth.
And to the author of every post I have read - Thank You.
