There have been a few posts regarding problems with the machine jumping or mortises not aligning, etc.  Many have suggested problems with the user’s grip or plunge rate. I wanted to share my method.

I put a majority of grip strength at the front and cradle the rear with my fingers (I do not grip the barrel). I push with my thumb only on the rear of the machine. This method works very well for me. Bear in mind that a vast majority of my mortises are dead on into end grain and not very many bevels, so I can’t say if my technique works in those instances or not.

I can say that I can’t recall a problem since adopting this method.
