My new dining table with matching benches

Hi Everyone,

We are moving house and need a new dining table to match the space in our new home. We also thought that a pair of matching benches would be perfect for the visits by the grand children.

Everything is made from French oak and the plans are available free of charge (hopefully below if I can get the technology to work).

I could not have made this without my Kapex and the TS55. I made great use of my various Festool sanders and the ETS EC 150/3 did a great job. As always, the unsung hero is my CT26.

The new New Brit Workshop is being created right now. I have some guys doing a dry lining job in what will become the workshop and the electrics are nearly done. I have some floor levelling, sound proofing and fitting out to do (about 4 weeks work) and hope to be fully operational by the latter half of October.

It has been quite a challenge trying to keep in touch with my YouTube and FOG friends whilst dealing with some quite poor internet service. I am now fully connected and my video upload speed has increased by a factor of 50 times.

Hi Peter

I have just begun watching the video - looking great as always. I got to the part where you are biscuiting the table top for alignment. I need to ask whether the slots are near the top or at the bottom of the edges? The best place to site them is at the lower end as the slots have a reported tendency to telegraph through when close to the upper surface. (I have very rarely biscuited a panel as I finish with handplanes).

Hi Derek

The biscuits are about 15 mm below the top surface. They are only there to aid alignment during glue up and will have no significant role after that. They must go in dry (no glue) otherwise they can force the two parts to separate during normal expansion and contraction.

I did use dominos on the benches but when I had my friend do the jointing of those huge boards for the table he went ahead and did the biscuits almost through force of habit. I do not have a Lamello and so would always use a domino.  Peter
