My new Festool ROTEX RO 150 FEQ sander

Hi everyone,

Some days ago I bought a machine that I dreamed of for many years, the Festool ROTEX RO 150 FEQ sander.  [smile]

I prefer the ro90 to the ro150, and I like the ro150. So you won't be disappointed with the ro90 fellamelad.

Something people often miss is how good the ROTEX units are as polishers. In forced rotation mode they're an auto detailer's dream!

My only criticism would be the noise - wish they could do something to make them a bit quieter. Hearing protection solves it for me, but everyone else still hears it.

I just finished sanding my Ipe deck rail with my RO90 and now I'm wishing I had the RO150 to do the deck itself!

I'm interested in the RO 150, but it looks like a big heavy machine and I wonder if it is tiring to use for several hours at a time. It also appears to be a strictly two handed machine, which also seems like it would be tiring after a while.  Is that the case or am I off base here?

It is big and heavy, and it is mostly a two handed machine.

That said, only use it on top of flat surfaces and it's really not an issue.

It gets easier once you've learnt its behaviour ... as with most power loots of this nature, it takes a while to become "one" with it.

If you're using it at a normal working height and flat you'll find you can go for hours [wink]

Really like the look of the 150 but as i got a ets ec 150 i think i'll get a ro 90  [smile]

I'm going for the RO 125 I'm not that beefy so I've got to scale things down a little. ditto the ETS EC 125. I don't really need them right now I've got the Metabo 425 125mm sander but at some point when the Domino, etc are bought I'll upgrade to the two above mention sanders..

I am with you on the RO 125 over the RO 150. I am a wimp and proud.

I did however go for the ETS EC 150. It meant yet another set of grits, but it is such an easy machine to use that 150mm is not a problem. Great for larger areas.

I have the DTS 400 for corners etc.

I already have the ETS 150/3, RO90 and ETS 125 and LS130 and my sanding disc collection is getting too large.  I have limited the amount of sanding discs for the 125 because of overall costs and also because it's the second to last least used sander (after the LS130).

If I get another Rotex it will be the RO150 since the ETS 150/3 is my most used sander and it's where I have the largest inventory of discs.

As far as weight (I'll just take more breaks and a short afternoon nap) [wink]

Hi , I have a question about this sender. I'm installing a floating floor upstairs and I need to remove 1-2mm of the plywood sheets in some areas. I already have other festools  (like ETS sender) but I didn't have a need to remove this much of material. Will the rotex work, if it does do i need to get a hard pad instead of the one it comes with. Which type of sandpaper would you recommend. My other option is to get Floor Edger from homedepot but if Rotex can handle the job I would prefer to get it as I may use it in other projects and other floor installation upstairs. Thanks in advance.
