My new office (i.e., blank canvas)

Last week I found myself quite unexpectedly elevated to a new position at work.  I want to emphasize the unexpectedly, because if I had foreseen this, I might not have taken on the large restaurant table commission I've posted about in the Member Projects forum and that I am still trying to complete (16 tables down, 6 to go).  As it is I can look forward to another week or two of 4-5 hrs of sleep per night trying to finish it up while also learning and discharging the new responsibilities I find myself saddled with.

One of the perks of the job, though, is that I get a new office, which is almost three times the size of my current space.  And so I am salivating at the prospect of renovating the space and making it my own.  I'm going to build a new desk and do all the shelving, but I'm especially looking forward to designing a replacement for that faux divider you see in the picture.  I'm still waiting on my Shaper Origin, which is in the second tranche of deliveries, and so I think it would be a great inaugural project through which to learn the machine to create some sort of curved archway/connector between two shelving units (that I would also construct myself).  I also want to replace that ugly, institutional, miserable excuse for a conference table with some sort of slab/trestle table.

I'm still squatting my present office, though, which I renovated when I first moved in 6 years ago, and which is quite comfortable as a result.  On paper my appointment lasts only through the Summer, but I will know by May if my employment will be renewed (this time indefinitely), in which case the expectation would be for me to continue in the current elevated status for the next few years.  I don't want to prematurely measure the drapes, but assuming all goes as planned, I will then be able to spend the Summer creating the office of my dreams!

Congratulations!!  [thumbs up]

I’m sure that it was well deserved. I look forward to seeing your office renovation project.

Congrats on the promotion, but what would anybody need to do with all those shelving in these digital days.
I know some customers of mine are only allowed to have 1 meter of shelving.
Your office has maybe 100 meters  [eek]

Happily, we still use books in my profession!
