I just wanted to show how I handle dust collection using a Ridgid ShopVac and Dust Right Vortex.  I hung a retractable clothesline to the ceiling and then used a double clip thingy (technical term) to attach the hose to the clothesline. It's not sexy but it works a lot better than I expected.

Nice way to string up the hose, James; also looks like that vortex separates nicely.  It's on a great price point; hardly more than those plastic cyclone trash can lids.

Love the retractable clothesline.  [thumbs up]

Looks to be a good way to 'air your dirty laundry' too.  [tongue]

Nice job.  [big grin]

I just got a Vortex recently. The less frequently I have to empty the shopvac the better. Seems to work well so far.

I was surprised how well the vortex actually separates and for $70 its a steal.

Thanks Corwin,
It does the job better than I expected, not as well as a CT but at least it prevents me from having to shell out the cash for a CT right now and I can continue to just buy tools.

I did a similar setup with a Craftsman Shop vac and the vortex. I added a bag inside the craftsman to help catch the fine particles and sears also sells a muffler for around $12 and that keeps the sound down.

One thing the Festoolvac does that is not available on the craftsman is to allow you to control suction when using certain tools like a sander. I found this vac handle at lowes.

The red band rotates to cover an opening. With this simple arrangement you can have some control over the amount of suction.

My Rockler vortex came with one of those handles. It looks identical to your picture- must be the same manufacturer.
