NA vendor for Classic Tanos

Unless I’m mistaken, Tanos still makes the classic Systainer. Tanos lists woodcraft as the only NA vendor. I contacted my local Woodcraft and I think they thought I was an alien seeking to repopulate the earth. I suppose it is possible that the classic is NAINA.  Do any of you know if the classic Tanos is available in NA?

I own a SYS maxi, but no other “latch” styles.  Are the classic SYS 1-5 constructed similar to the maxi?  If so, that why I want them.

I still see the  five different Tanos Classic drawer style systainers in the Lee Valley catalog, but none of the standard ones other than the Maxi.

According to some on the forum, they’re still available for sale. Don’t know and don’t care as they were always problematic. I always needed to use a screwdriver to open the bastinados.  Good riddance...

Completely agree with Cheese, they were awful. Sore fingers and split nails trying to open the damn things. Unfortunately as I also have a lot of Makita tools, I’m having the same issues with those cases too. I have filed the cleats down a little, which helps. I’m still not a fan though.

I remember reading some posts about people wishing Tanos hadn’t gone to the T lock. I’m wondering now if it’s because they’re less durable?

I have three 12 drawer sortainers and yes they can be very troublesome to unlock. I’d be willing to sacrifice difficult opening for increased durability, but if the classic hinge connection isn’t much different than the T lock, then I will be happy with what I have. The T locks are nicer to open, most definitely.

I'll ask Tanos USA If we can get Classic Systainers and report back.  If I can, they likely have to come from Germany and may involve a minimum purchase.  The product isn't listed on my price list.

I’d be VERY interested in picking up some Classic Systainers.

When using the Sys-AZ drawers I drill my holes at 16mm centers (increasing the density of storage). When using the Classic Systainers, I can leave the lids unlatched and simply slide the drawer open and flip the lid. With my T-Locs, if I accidentally slide the drawer shut with the latch “up” the drawer above knocks the latch off.

A little Teflon goes a long way towards making the latches on the Classic Systainers easier to operate.

If Classic Systainers were made available, I’d also want access to the various trays/inserts as well. One of my major regrets is transferring my older Festool tools to T-Locs, if I could go back to Classics I would do so in a heart beat.

I talked with Tanos USA this morning on a few items, including this discussion on Classic Systainers.
In general they are not stocked.  With that said, there is some inventory that collects in Germany and in the USA as the units are produced for a few companies that buy in large quantities.

If you are interested in buying some classic systainers, send me a note (hello[member=68900]Systainer.Store[/member]) with specifics on unit and quantity.  I'll do what I can with Tanos USA to see if we can identify available stock.  This isn't a guarantee, though there are some units available.  The items may have to come from Germany, so it could be late November before they arrive.  I'd have to get your order (and payment) in the next week or so.

That's fundamentally interesting that they do make them some of the classics still.  Obviously they would still have the tooling, but hearing they do make some runs still is good to know.  That basically means that same will hold for t-loc's as  3rd gens take over.  Companies will have an option to work as they were instead of being forced into a sudden move.

Maybe I'm missing something, but all my Tlocs connect to a SYS-Maxi no problem.

I've only got a few classics, the only application I can see that can't be met by the Tlocs is the Classic extension frame (essentially a SYS1 without a lid or bottom), and I've never had a need for one.  Maybe if I wanted to make a SYS-6 or taller, but it's a pretty limited application.

Didn't know they had extension frames in the classics.  I've mentioned that would be a nice feature to have.
