I've been at home all day today, and have spent a large portion of the day reading some of the older posts on here. I get the impression that there is a hell of a lot of Festool gear you simply can't get in the states (not just the tools themselves, but an awful lot of accessories, too). I realise that the whole situation with UL approval doesn't help, but surely it can't be that difficult?

Oh well, after over a century of not getting stuff you take for granted (I STILL can't get HDTV >:( ) it's good to know there are some thing we can enjoy that you can't! I'm going to go and admire my Kapex now....  ;D ;D ;D

Yeah, but we only pay about 1.50 GBP per gallon of petrol! ;D

I seem to remember hearing that the gallon was the only thing that wasn't bigger and better in America!

Thanks for that Paul  :D

Seriously though, it seems strange that Festool wouldn't try harder to get more things available over there - the US is a HUGE market.

I do have a theory, though. I already heard that Festool are struggling to get enough raw material to produce their full capacity as it is - maybe they're deliberately holding stuff back from the US market until they can massively ramp up production, whilst simultaneously using forums like this to hype up the products (not that they need to!) and create a big demand ready for when they do release them?

Please note though, that this is not based on anything official, or rumour, it's just my theory. Don't try & read any more into it!  ;D ;D ;D

What is it about UL approval that hangs emergence up so much?  Is it so much more rigorous than other countries, and if so why?  Or is just a bloated bureaucracy?

Let us have our tools underwriters!

This is just my hunch, but I suspect Festool is wisely trying to be careful to maintain quality as they ramp up production.  They have a good and growing reputation to maintain.  That reputation could be quickly ruined if they are not careful.  I note that earlier this year Boeing openly stated they will not ramp up production of their aircraft as rapidly as in the past despite extremely high customer orders for new aircraft because they do not want to risk quality and on-time delivery of the units they have promised to their customers.  Perhaps Christian O. or another official representive of Festool will comment.  I think it is more than just UL approvals and availability of materials.  If Festool was using titanium, I would agree on shortage of that.

In my estimation, this falls into the cup half full or half empty. Or, just look at all the Festool stuff we have available. I am not hurting for lack of stuff. I know some of the tools that are in Europe will be nice to have, but I also know they will come soon enough.

The way I look at it, if Festool had many more tools available in the US, bankruptcy would soon be a viable option.
