Narex?

Have any of you heard of this brand.. looks like a cheaper brand of tools featuring some of the Festool technology?

I stubled upon it looking at the UK Festool spares catalogue

The company NAREX s.r.o. belongs among the leading suppliers of electric hand tools. It is the integral part of a strong group of brands under the umbrella TTS Tooltechnic Systems AG & Co. organization with the registered seat in Wendlingen, FRG, proud of its successful eighty-year tradition. The NAREX brand has a similarly long tradition commenced over 65 years ago by manufacture of el. motors and el. tools

It is a sister company of Festool. Tooltechnic System is the parent company of Festool, Protool, Tanos, Schneider and many other brands.

Thnaks.. just hadn't heard of them over in the UK.. note I said cheaper brand (than Festool).. I based this purely on the pictures of the tools, haven't seen the price list!

I've seen the Narex stuff before - I've heard it's good quality, but unfortunately the designs are about 20 years behind. They look like the worst, cheapest, nastiest Chinese knock-off tools you could imagine!

I'm not 100% certain, but I seem to recall that's a different company, with the same name. I think it came up in a thread on here a few months ago.

change their colour scheme and compared to the original there seem to be a few shared design features ;-)

Funny how the narex cleaner looks like an alto cleaner.
Just as the Festool SRM looks like a makita...which looks like an alto. Hmmm!

I gotta say that I don't see it. Every single part I look at seems different, except maybe the trigger lock button and the power cord after the strain relief.

I'm sure that they don't have Festool prices, but for Eastern Europeans it's a top brand.

It's an Eastern European brand ...... they're not behind the iron curtain anymore but that doesn't mean they immediately switch over to our Western capitalistic decadent way of thinking that every cool tool has to look like a space ship. Functionality is what matters.

I have been using Protool/Narex tools for 11 years.

I had no idea they produced hand tools also!

If they could change the colour to dark blue and Festool green.
They might be on to a winner!

A couple of weeks ago I received a set of 10 Narex chisels (1/4" to 2") that I ordered from Lee Valley.  I had ordered one in a 1/8" size they had as a special and liked it very much for the price.  They are well made for the price and very usable for the furniture making that I do as a hobbyist.  The blades are chrome manganese steel, hardened to Rc59 with beech handles.  Lee Valley has them as an exclusive until January of 2012, according to their website.
